It’s hard to believe the outdoor season is coming to a close. Celebrate with lively family fun and the beauty of autumn, when you head to Heritage Park to enjoy Thanksgiving weekend. Gather the family, get together with friends, and enjoy all your favourite attractions at Heritage Park Historical Village.

Heritage Park Historical Village is a living history museum with something for everyone and it’s one of Calgary’s top attractions. The Historical Village is open daily during the summer and on weekends until Thanksgiving. But during the rest of the year, families will still enjoy visiting Gasoline Alley, stopping by one of the shops, or attending a special event. No matter the season, there’s always something to discover at Heritage Park!

Visit Thanksgiving Weekend

Head to Heritage Park this Thanksgiving weekend to visit the Historical Village before it closes for the season. This is the last chance for the family fun activities you’ve loved all summer, from riding the train to exploring the fascinating interpretive sites. You can visit the farm animals, find beautiful fall photo opportunities, and take one last ride at the Antique Midway. Even better, you can add a Thanksgiving dinner to your visit at the Wainwright Hotel or the Selkirk that weekend!

Visit All Year Long

The Historical Village is closing for the season, but Heritage Park is actually a year-round attraction. Stop by Gasoline Alley, open daily from 10 am – 5 pm. Here you’ll find one of the world’s largest public collections of antique vehicles and oil and gas-related artifacts. The expansive three-story museum brings auto history to life, from the turn of the 20th century to the 1950s. Visit a bustling street scene, enjoy a blast from the past with a vintage drive-in movie, and then enjoy some family fun and crafts in the Family Gallery!

Families can also visit the new temporary exhibit in Gasoline Alley, The Terry Fox Van of Hope. This is the van that Terry, his brother Darrell, and his friend Doug used on the Marathon of Hope. The Exhibit will have images, text, and interactive elements to reflect on Terry’s legacy to fight cancer.

The fall is a busy time at Heritage Park for special events, as well. Ghoul’s Night Out is a favourite Halloween event for families with kids, because it’s a whole lot of fun, and not too scary for little ones. You could also book a Ghost Tea this Halloween. It’s a spooky edition of the Famous 5 afternoon teas that begins with a 60-minute family-friendly ghost tour through the park’s haunted sites. Adults might want to check out Ghosts and Gourmet, a frightful Halloween dinner party at the Wainwright Hotel that ends with a tour through Heritage Park’s haunted history. Before you know it, Once Upon A Christmas will be here, to fill your senses with the nostalgia of past Christmas celebrations while you create new Christmas memories with your family. Find a special event suited to your family and enjoy every moment.

Of course, we enjoy the shops of Heritage Park in the summer, but did you know that the shops of Haskayne Mercantile stay open all year long? You can still buy your treats and unique gifts, even after Thanksgiving weekend. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Christmas Market, too!

There’s always a good reason to head to Heritage Park. Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with your family, and then continue to create memories all year long!
