Vancouver continues to win awards. The BEST chocolate IN THE WORLD comes from Vancouver’s own Mink Chocolates. Their Mermaid Bar just won the top prize at the 2014 International Chocolate Salon in San Francisco. Competitors from around the world were bested by Vancouver’s very own!

As I am a nut for chocolate I felt it my obligation to go and check out this award-winning bar.  I was expecting a typical chocolate shop – the kind with the glass display counter.  When I walked into Mink Chocolates I was surprised by it’s cafe-style layout.  The famous chocolate bars were nicely displayed but tucked off to one side.

The chocolates aren’t cheap – $6.50 for 50g – but having sampled 2 already they are definitely not overpriced!  I just devoured the Taj Masala (cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, clover, ginger and turmeric).  My hubby gobbled up the No Grumpy (organic espresso).  We are trying to save Certifiably Nutty (roasted almonds) for a treat tonight…I’m doubting our will power will be strong enough.  Crazy good!  I’m sad to say they were out of the Mermaid Bar; apparently another delivery is coming on Friday.  I will be back to get a taste of the world’s best!

While at Mink Chocolates, I bought each of my boys a hot chocolate.  I think it was just a chocolate bar melted into a cup.  Good heavens was the drinks were amazing!  The serving sizes were generous; I happily helped the kids finish off their cups of yumminess.I am waiting for a cold November afternoon to head back to Mink Chocolates for their chocolate fondus.  There is either the choice of a fruit fondu or s’mores.  Doesn’t that sound divine?
