The dinosaurs have disappeared! Not just the real ones from millions of years ago, but rather Prehistoric Park at the Calgary Zoo. Have no fear however – even though the popular collection is currently closed to the public, it will re-open in March 2015 with some new faces – and animatronic bodies.
This spring, the zoo will introduce 17 new realistic, fleshy dinosaur models, based on the success of the Dinosaurs Alive exhibit held there in 2010. The animatronic creatures will mimic real dinosaur movement and sounds, with some featuring the ability to be controlled by a button pressed by a passer-by.
The park will also feature freshly paved pathways, a restored amphitheater, and more open spaces for guests to enjoy. The zoo has chosen the late fall and early winter to update the park, as summer is the busiest season and this timeframe will have the least impact on visitors.
Dust off your copies of Jurassic Park so you can freshen up your dino communication skills – the grand re-opening is just months away!
