Cute. Cuddly. Lovable.
Pandas – it doesn’t matter which adjective you use, China’s giant pandas draw interest and bring excitement wherever they go, and this spring, four pandas will be at the Calgary Zoo! The female, Er Shun (meaning double smoothness), and the male, Da Mao (meaning son of mao), will be arriving with their twin cubs, Jia Panpan (meaning Canadian hope) and Jia YueYue (meaning Canadian joy).
Several years ago, with the announcement that China would be lending two of its giant pandas to Canada, the Calgary Zoo was thrilled to be on the elite list. The pandas arrived at the Toronto Zoo in 2012, and while there, the female panda gave birth to two cubs. Now, five years later, it’s our turn, Calgary! This spring, all four pandas will finally be heading west. The adult pandas will stay for five years, and the cubs for about 18 months.
If you are an Engage or Inspire member of the Calgary Zoo, you can be among the first Calgarians to visit the pandas in an exclusive sneak-peek. Membership at the Calgary Zoo pays for itself in only two visits, plus, membership offers other VIP previews, receive exceptional discounts and gain access to many fun activities like Penguin Walk and Easter Eggstravaganza! And, of course, you always have the opportunity to see nearly 900 animals representing over 120 species from five continents. Where else could you step out of winter and into a rain forest?
