Fort Calgary is located just east of downtown Calgary on a 40-acre site. Open year-round, the Fort tells the story of the history of the Mounted Police and the settlement of the people of Calgary. It is a reconstructed 1875 fort site. It was reconstructed in 1975 and because of the significant archaeological finds, it was declared a national and provincial historic site. Some of the activities you can experience at Fort Calgary include trying on a North West Mounted Police uniform, riding a virtual streetcar and experiencing a jail cell from the inside! Fort Calgary is owned by The City of Calgary and is operated by the Fort Calgary Preservation Society
