Have you been to Nanton lately? The town, located just 35 minutes south of Calgary on Highway #2, is a great day trip destination. Not only is the drive easy and pleasant, but the town itself is full of fun things to see and do. Despite its small size, Nanton is rich in cultural activities, fun learning experiences, shopping opportunities, and iconic Southern Alberta history.

While just about any warm weather weekend is a great time to drive down to Nanton, the community is celebrating it’s history on June 7 with a day full of activities highlighting all that the town has to offer. The Bomber Command Museum of Canada will commemorate the Bomber Command’s D-Day efforts, start up the engine of their rare Lancaster air craft, and offer other displays of amazing WWII aircraft and artifacts. Over at the Big Sky Garden Railway, you’ll be able to take advantage of free admission for kids, ride the train through the 7,000 square foot garden, check out the Garden Railway displays, and play in the covered Thomas play areas. The Grain Elevator Discovery Centre, which features three historic prairie grain elevators, will host special elevator demonstrations and grain displays. And the always fun Museum of Miniatures will offer 10% off regular admission to see their museum full of historic scenes — all at 1/12 scale!

If that’s not enough, be sure to visit all of Nanton’s other unique businesses, including loads of antique shops, the famed Candy Store, the Farmers’ Market, ice cream shop, and all of the fun and funky art shoppes. If you have time, maybe even take in a round of golf at the Nanton Golf Course! For more information on Nanton, visit the town of Nanton’s website at Nanton.ca.
