Something awesome happened at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday January 8, 2017… 300 girls had fun, played hard and were inspired by one of their heroes! These 300 girls (aged 7-14) were lucky enough to get a spot to attend the free 9th annual Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest on Sunday. They got to learn from Olympic gold medalist Cassie Campbell-Pascall and skate on the Calgary Flames ice at the Scotiabank Saddledome – that’s a regulation NHL/WHL rink and home to our own Calgary Flames!!!
Lots of the girls who attended were trying hockey for the first time and we know that many of them ended the day feeling passionate about the sport and eager to get back on the ice soon!
The opportunity to meet a female sporting role model, try a new sport or improve their skills in the sport they already love is so valuable to girls. This particular day gave hundreds of girls a clear reminder that they can and should dream big and will their full potential, in hockey and in life! And with Scotiabank putting on the event for free, no one who wanted to attend got left out for financial reasons. Each girl even took home a new jersey and a gift bag!
