We will be updating this article as new information is released.
If you’ve lived in Calgary for any length of time, you’ll know how the Stampede leaves its mark on the city for 10 days every July. Workplaces often close or plan their own Stampede fun, dress codes relax, and free breakfast pops up all over town. Whether you dress in cowboy boots and denim for daily visits to the Stampede grounds, wander over to a local pancake breakfast in your flip flops, or head out of town to avoid the crowds, Calgary and the Stampede go hand-in-hand every July.
Where to Find Stampede Fun?
After a year of pandemic restrictions, the Stampede returns to Calgary from July 9 – 18, 2021. It will look different but will still be a memorable celebration, filled with classic Stampede experiences, including the Stampede Rodeo, Midway, Elbow River Camp, live music at Nashville North and The Big Four Roadhouse, BMO Market, Western Showcase, Agriculture showcases and competitions, and much more.
If you’re feeling a little peckish, find a FREE breakfast somewhere in the city with the help of our Stampede Breakfast Guide.
Among many safety enhancements, the Stampede Parade will travel through Stampede Park prior to public opening on the morning of Friday, July 9, 2021, and will feature many of the things you know and love, including floats, marching bands, and many mounted riders. You can enjoy the 2021 Parade from the comfort of your living room through a special broadcast by Global Calgary.
On a budget? Find deals and value days so you can save a little money. (Frontline workers can get in free on certain days.)
If you love the rides, you will still be able to experience the Midway, although at a much smaller scale with fewer rides.
The Evening Show will be reimagined for 2021 (the chuckwagons will return in 2022). For 2021 only, they are planning a brand-new Evening Show experience; it will be an emotion-filled celebration that will include high-energy western events, competitive rodeo, live music, The Young Canadians, and one of the largest fireworks displays in Canada. Make new Stampede memories with the community each night, and each afternoon, with the continued tradition of the Stampede Rodeo, the world’s largest outdoor rodeo.
Attendees can expect capacity limits and it is expected attendance and capacity will be around 50%.
Are you looking for fireworks? You don’t even have to be in Calgary to enjoy Stampede Fireworks this year! There will be a province-wide fireworks display on Friday, July 9, 2021, as the Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Bell, will take place in Lethbridge, Red Deer, Edmonton and Calgary. This incredible display will be a must-see, as the largest and most sophisticated firework event produced in Canada this year. Find specific viewing locations HERE. It will also be broadcast on CTV Calgary, CTV2 and CTVNews.ca beginning at 11 pm.
It’s all adding up to be the Greatest and Safest Outdoor Show on Earth!
