5 Elements Martial Arts<\/a><\/strong>, located\u00a0in SE Calgary’s Canyon Meadows neighborhood, is excited to offer four\u00a0weeks<\/strong> of active, educational and – above all – super fun<\/i> summer camps for kids aged 3-13 years<\/strong>. With a daily maximum of 40 kids enrolled, the kids\u00a0will be divided\u00a0into smaller groups by their age (and experience if relevant), with\u00a06-8 kids assigned to each instructor. 5 Element’s instructors are experienced in teaching martial arts classes and leading kids programs at the Dojo. Many of the instructors are World Champion Martial Artists who\u00a0have competed all over the world. What inspiring role models for the campers! Please note that these camps are intended for kids of all skill levels<\/b>… no previous experience is required<\/b>;\u00a0fitness and fun are the focus here!<\/del><\/p>\n

We asked 5 Elements’ owner, Maeghen Cotterill<\/a>, to break down for us what a typical day at camp might include. The answer is… a lot<\/i>! From\u00a0martial arts basics<\/b> (punches, kicks, blocks, self-defense) to\u00a0cultural and craft activities<\/b> like japanese terminology, korean lessons, sushi making, paper lanterns, painting and more, plus outdoor activities including drills, games and exercises<\/b>, these campers are going to be busy. They’ll even get some basic weapons training, work on their coordination and agility, and get to do an obstacle course.<\/del><\/p>\n

Having first experienced 5 Elements’ approach to teaching at my son’s birthday party<\/a>\u00a0and during a great week of camp last year, I know that safety, self discipline, and respect (for self and others) will be woven into every\u00a0activity. Each camp will also include one full-day field trip<\/b>, like a trip to Chinatown or Eau Claire (via C-train). That’s\u00a0an\u00a0adventure they’ll probably be talking about for quite some time! Campers also spend time at Fish Creek Provincial Park<\/strong>, which is just a short walk from the Dojo.<\/del><\/p>\n
