On Calgary’s 17th Avenue SW, about a dozen blocks west of ‘restaurant mile’, there exists a foodie mecca and the perfect spot for a quick getaway from everyday reality. The Casel building is home to upscale French\u00a0eatery Cassis Bistro<\/a>, her little sister V\u00e9lo Caf\u00e9<\/a>, whole and organic foods retailer\u00a0Market 17<\/a>, as well as a J. Webb Wine Merchant<\/a> and The Village Flatbread Company<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with a good friend at V\u00e9lo Caf\u00e9 and wanted to spread the news about this quaint eatery that serves up\u00a0great food in a spot where kids are welcomed. Nestled within Market 17 and adjoining Cassis Bistro, this charming little caf\u00e9 serves delicious food prepared by\u00a0Cassis’ talented chefs. Just head up to the counter to order and the friendly staff will bring\u00a0your food over to your table.<\/p>\n

The friend I ate lunch with? The brilliant interior designer<\/a>\u00a0behind the atmosphere of Cassis, V\u00e9lo and Market 17!<\/p><\/div>\n

This simply\u00a0says\u00a0‘un petit peu de France’\u00a0to moi!<\/p><\/div>\n

We indulged in\u00a0two open-faced sandwiches from the breakfast menu – mixed mushroom and prosciutto with caramelized onions – and shared. Both were delectable<\/em> and served on top of amazing gluten-free french bread, with an organic hard boiled egg on the side. I concluded\u00a0my meal with a perfect (and perfectly beautiful) cappuccino and went home feeling like I’d really had a mini break.<\/p>\n

V\u00e9lo’s gorgeous cappuccino begins\u00a0with their eponymous Blend from Rooftop Coffee Roasters.<\/p><\/div>\n

Market 17 carries a wide range of healthy and natural foods and personal care products, including some gorgeous\u00a0ready to eat foods straight from the kitchen at Cassis.<\/p><\/div>\n

Even if a date night at Cassis is not in the cards right now (though I highly recommend trying for one!), plan on the next best thing… breakfast, lunch or even just coffee and a chocolate croissant at V\u00e9lo Caf\u00e9.\u00a0It’s\u00a0casual, comfortable and colourful enough for your kids, but the chic cycle-themed French atmosphere will allow\u00a0you to\u00a0feel like you’ve had a little getaway. Plus,\u00a0you can grab some delicious\u00a0take-home gourmet goodies from the market on your way out the door!<\/p>\n
