We had friends over last week and nearly all of the men were sporting a big ‘stache. It felt like were hosting a private detectives convention in our kitchen. The topic of why our husbands faces have gotten so furry came up and we found that everyone had a story of someone they knew who had suffered from prostate cancer. Friends, fathers and father-in-laws. The statistic is 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Staggering.<\/p>\n

Although wives, girlfriends and mothers may see Movember as a huge excuse for men to look ridiculous, this is a real movement for a great cause. Justin Vroon<\/a> (my husband) and his team at Mawell Realty Southstar (the Maxwell Southstar Studs) are just a few of the great guys participating in the Movember movement.<\/p>\n

So what is Movember<\/a>?<\/p>\n

Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression. Originating in Australia and New Zealand, Canada joined the global movement in 2007.<\/p>\n

As of 2011 Canadians were the largest contributors to the Movember charities of any nation. Go Canada!<\/p>\n

By committing to grow a moustache for the month of November, the hope is to raise vital awareness and funds for prostate cancer and male mental health.<\/p>\n

To highlight the importance of what the smartest men are doing, take a look at these statistics:
\n\u2022 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
\n\u2022 This year 26,500 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
\n\u2022 1 in 5 men will experience a mental illness this year<\/p>\n
