Spend the day at the Alberta Legislature and Visitor Centre and celebrate where the holiday began! The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is excited to welcome everyone back for the annual Family Day festivities on Monday, February 17, 2025. It will be an afternoon of free, family-friendly activities spread between two amazing venues!
Alberta Legislature Building | 10820 – 98 Avenue
Come rain, snow, or shine, you can stay warm this Family Day enjoying indoor entertainment, education, activities, and more at the Alberta Legislature. If you have never had a chance to tour the historic parliament building, this is a great time to discover the history, art and architecture under the iconic dome. On the main floor, all ages are also invited to enjoy creative crafting fun, meet the Legislature’s own Rocky the Ram, and discover tales of adventure with guest Métis storyteller Naomi McIlwraith.
Visitor Centre – Queen Elizabeth II Building | 9820 – 107 Street NW
Enjoy twice the Family Day fun with even more activities and entertainment at the Legislative Assembly’s Visitor Centre, just a short walk north of the main Legislature building! This year’s Main Stage line-up includes the chance to be wowed by the magic of Ron Pearson and Jay Flair, discover Indigenous hoop dancing with Lakota Tootoosis, enjoy the silly antics of balloon artist Demi Dupri, and see what crazy things Jojo’s Magic Circus can juggle.
Main Stage Performance Schedule:
- Ron Pearson (Magic) | 11:15 AM to Noon
- Jay Flair (Circus) | 12:10 PM – 12:55 PM
- Lakota Tootoosis (Hoop dance) | 1:05 PM – 1:50 PM
- Demi Dupri (Balloon show) | 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM

While at the Visitor Centre be sure to take in the immersive 4-D short film Our People, Our Province in the Pehonan Theatre and take some time to explore the interactive Democracy Discovery Centre. There will be colouring stations, balloon twisting, temporary tattoos, and LEGO® stations set up for the kids (and kids at heart) to try their hand at building a mini Legislature building! Plus, it is a great time to see the latest thought-provoking exhibit in the Borealis Gallery: Destroyed Temples of Ukraine.
It’s all happening from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Family Day Monday and, best of all, it’s ALWAYS FREE!
