September is upon us! We’ve found harvest festivals, community league events, outdoor movies, and plenty of activities – indoor and out – that your whole family will love! We’ve picked a mere sampling of the family fun events in Edmonton in September – to see everything this month has to offer, head over to the Family Fun Edmonton calendar!

Community League Day (August 19 to September 18) – Celebrate with local Community Leagues at several great events in the weeks leading up to, and on, official Community League Day September 18, 2021. Check the event map for great activities such as carnivals, bouncy castles, bbq’s, outdoor movies and petting zoos.

A Dinosaur Tale (September 3 & 4) – Let your kids experience the joys of theatre with this live action fantasy adventure where Declan and Lisa must return living dinosaurs back through a worm-hole during their class fieldtrip.

Concordia University Homecoming 2021 (September 3 to 5) – Gather with fellow Alumni to celebrate 100 years of Concordia University of Edmonton. The weekend promises to be filled with in-person celebratory events, reunions, fireworks, and fun for all ages.

Art Expressions at RAM (September 4 & 19) – Bring your family to the Royal Alberta Museum to create your own masterpiece with Art Expressions. Use a variety of materials to glide, dab, tap and swish while creating prints and artwork inspired by the Breathe exhibition.

Harvest Festival at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum (September 4 & 5) – A weekend of fall family fun learning about vintage farming equipment and practices.  The kids will enjoy checking out the tractors, playing carnival games and the petting zoo.

Fort Saskatchewan Sheep Leaving Parade (September 6) – Bid adieu to summer, and the sheep, at the Fort Saskatchewan Sheep Leaving Parade! Come for noon to feed the sheep (carrots provided by the City), then stay for the parade as they are shepherded from Legacy Park to the Fort Heritage Precinct.

Beaumont Town & Country Daze 2021 (September 10-12) – Celebrate Beaumont’s 125th anniversary at the street party, pancake breakfast, parade, soapbox derby, outdoor movie, fireworks or midway.  There is something for everyone during this weekend celebration!

Sharing Our Hearts for Kids Family Fun Day (September 12, 2021) – Join Zebra Child Protection Centre and experience an amazing afternoon of rides, fair foods and games at Fort Edmonton’s newly renovated midway.

Kaleido On Tour (September 17 to 19) – Join the free family fun as Alberta Avenue comes alive with creativity, entertainment and arts of every kind!. Kaleido is a celebration of community.

Gateway to the Stars at Elk Island National Park (September 17 – October 30) – Gather around the campfire for storytelling and star gazing with a knowledgable Parks Canada Interpreter. Elk Island National Park is part of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve, making it the perfect place to see the constellations.

Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival (September 19) – Also known as the Moon Festival, the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival is the second most important holiday in the Chinese calendar. All Edmontonians are invited to join the fun and history with lantern crafting, storytelling, musical performances and cultural games.

Open Cockpit Day at Alberta Aviation Museum (September 25) – During this special event, visitors can find themselves in the seat of an authentic piece of aviation history! Join in the celebrations with special family programming, guest presentations, photo booth opportunities and food trucks.

Stony Plain Old Time Harvest Festival (September 25) – Go back in time for the Old Time Harvest festival at the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum. Attend an old time church service, watch threshing and blacksmith demos, plus enjoy gold panning, wagon rides, old time games and live music.

Expedition: Dinosaur at TWOS (All month) – Don’t miss out on your chance to experience this great exhibit at the Telus World of Science. This immersive experience will find you surrounded by life-size (and lifelike!) animatronic dinosaurs in a pre-historic landscape.

Outdoor Movies (All month long) – Take in a movie on the big screen outdoors at one of these outdoor/drive-in movies. Some of them are free, and others have a small cost for meaningful fundraising.

Edmonton Corn Maze (All month long) – The stalks are high, the sunflowers are bright, and the farm fun is a plenty! It’s the perfect time to go get lost at the Edmonton Corn Maze!

Kraay Family Farms (All month long) – Take a daytrip out to the farm and to get lost in the corn maze, see the animals, ride the train, climb the adventure course and play some mini golf. There’s so much to see and do here!

Harry Potter Movie Marathon in IMAX (All month long) – Don’t miss out on your chance to catch all the wizarding adventure on the giant screen at the Telus World of Science.
