September is upon us! We’ve found harvest festivals, community league events, outdoor movies, and plenty of activities – indoor and out – that your whole family will love! We’ve picked a mere sampling of the family fun events in Edmonton in September – to see everything this month has to offer, head over to the Family Fun Edmonton Events Calendar!


FREE Disney Concert at Symphony in the Square
September 1 & 2 | A Dream is a Wish FREE family-friendly concerts will feature the music of beloved Disney films including Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, and more. Be at Churchill Square early for the food trucks and plan to stay late for the spectacular fireworks show right after each performance!

Harvest Festival at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum
September 2 & 3 | Spend a fun fall day learning more about farming practices and equipment through the decades while you watch some the museum’s impressive collection of vintage tractors and machinery at work. The kids will love the Family Fun Zone with carnival games and a petting zoo.

Sweet, Sweet Corn Fest at Prairie Gardens
September 2-4 | Indulge in everyone’s favourite vegetable/maze building material with two corn mazes, face painting, corn eating contests, crafts, scarecrow making, a petting farm, lawn games, and so much more.

Star Party in Elk Island Park
September 3 | Bring the family to Elk Island Park to enjoy informative sessions from guest speakers and interpretive performances, then stay late to experience the wonders of the dark sky! Activities free (with valid park entry).

Fort Saskatchewan Sheep Leaving Parade
September 4 | Bid adieu to summer, and the sheep, at the Fort Saskatchewan Sheep Leaving Parade! Come for noon to feed the sheep (apples & carrots provided by the City), then stay for the parade as they are shepherded through the downtown core.

Callingwood Fall Carnival
September 9 | This whimsical afternoon will feature circus performers, magicians, stilt walkers, live music, and traditional Lion Dance. Come hungry for a treat from the food trucks, shop the vendor market, and let the kids have some fun at the petting zoo, pony rides, bouncy castle, and hoola hoop workshops!

Annihilation Night at RAD Torque Raceway
September 9 | This Saturday night of mayhem includes a bit of everything with freestyle motocross, sprint cars, redneck racers, a crane drop and jet car burn. Come watch as they SMASH ‘EM, CRASH ‘EM, and even DROP ‘EM from the sky!

Edmonton Elks Family Day
September 9 | cheer on the green and yellow as they face off against the Calgary Stampeders. Come early to enjoy a pre-game concert in Fan Fest and the Kids Zone in Clark Stadium, then sit back and enjoy the game led by special kid broadcasters and junior anthem singers. Don’t forget all kids 12 and under get in FREE to all regular season Edmonton Elks games!

Touch A Truck Fort Saskatchewan or Touch A Truck St. Albert
September 10 | Bring the kids to Legacy Park in Fort Saskatchewan to get up close & personal with a wide variety of highway heavyweights and other interesting vehicles. Admission is $20/family in support of Families First Society Fort Saskatchewan.
September 16 | Join The Salvation Army St. Albert for your chance to see and explore police cars, fire trucks, and other surprise vehicles, while enjoying games, entertainment, and a BBQ. This event is FREE, with guests are encouraged to bring a toy donation for the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Store.

Jubilations Junior Presents The Addams Family Band
All Month Long |  Join Wednesday and the rest of her kooky but loveable family as they “band” together to bring their unique musical style to the stage! During Jubilations Junior Saturday Matinee shows you can enjoy a two-act musical production and dining experience geared for the whole family.

EMBFest: Edmonton’s Mountain Bike Festival
September 8 – 10 | Bring the whole family out to learn more about the mountain biking lifestyle and how to incorporate this fun and fitness filled activity into your own life! This annual festival will be three days of group rides, biking to live music, and silly fundraising events.

Revisit a Harvest of the Past at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village
September 9 | Don’t miss the final event of the season! Explore the village, see an old-fashioned threshing bee, and watch costumed interpreters give demos all about farming in the olden days.

Open Cockpit Day at Alberta Aviation Museum
September 9 | During this special event, visitors can find themselves in the seat of an authentic piece of aviation history! Join in the celebrations with special family programming, guest presentations, photo booth opportunities and food trucks.

Greater Edmonton Model Train Show
September 9 & 10 | The soccer fields in Millennium Place (Sherwood Park) will be packed with model train displays, demos, how-to clinics and plenty of fun for the kids including a LEGO activity centre.

Fall-o-ween Fun at Prairie Gardens
September 10 – October 31 | Come get lost in the corn or sunflower maze, meet some adorable farm animals, take a train ride, play games in the Corn-i-val,  make and take a scarecrow, get spooked in the haunted house, and get ready for the spooky season by picking out your own unique pumpkin from the pumpkin patch!

Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo
September 15 – 17 | Each year, Edmonton Expo attracts tens of thousands of fans for a 3-day celebration of all things fandom – from superhero blockbusters to vintage comic books and everything in between. Whatever interests you, you’re sure to find it here including one-time-only workshops and guest panels with artists from around the world.

Kaleido Family Arts Festival
September 15 – 17 | Join the free family fun as Alberta Avenue comes alive with creativity, entertainment and arts of every kind! Kaleido will bring light and joy through free music, theatre, art, dance, street performances, an artisan music, and delicious food.

Dog Days at the U of A Botanic Garden
September 15 – October 9 | For a couple special weeks at the end of the Fall season, you can bring your four-legged friend to sniff, explore and play at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.

Community League Day 
September 16 | Celebrate with local Community Leagues at several great events in the weeks leading up to, and on, official Community League Day September 16, 2023. Check the event map for great activities such as carnivals, bouncy castles, bbq’s, outdoor movies and petting zoos.

LASER Taylor Swift 
September 9 – October 28 | Enjoy top hits from the biggest pop star on the planet during Laser Taylor Swift in the Science Centre’s Zeidler Dome! This dazzling laser light show on Friday and Saturday nights is the next best thing to scoring tickets to her concert.

Oktoberfest in ICE District
September 22-24 & September 29-30 | Experience the warmth and hospitality of Germany right in our own city when Western Canada’s largest Oktoberfest celebration comes to Fan Park! Discover authentic German cuisine, live music and entertainment, family-friendly games and activities, and local beer by the stein-full!

St. Albert Clean and Green Riverfest
September 23 | Pitch in to help restore wildlife habitats along the Sturgeon River! Volunteers will be supplied with everything needed including gloves, bags, and garbage pickers for litter clean-up, and shovels and gloves for tree planting. During the event, you can also look forward to a free BBQ lunch, live music, and the chance to learn something new at the Environment Fair. BONUS While you are in St. Albert check out the brand NEW Paris themed playground in the community of Chérot.

Kids on Campus
September 23 |
Enjoy a full line-up of activities including performances by Beppie and the Métis Child and Family Dancers, tie-dye station in Quad, Kids Court, and free bouldering at the Wilson Climbing Centre. Everyone’s invited – whether you’re an alumni or have never set foot on campus before!

Salisbury Greenhouse Harvest Autumn Festival
September 23 (Sherwood Park) & 24 (St. Albert) | Both Salisbury Greenhouse locations will host their own day of fun with trackless train rides, balloon twisting, roaming magicians, carnival games, pumpkin painting, a market, and more. Don’t forget your donation for local food banks.

Northeast River Valley Park Grand Opening
September 24 | Edmonton’s newest park covers 190-acres and features covered barn bridges, a playground, extensive walking trails, and an events centre. Grand Opening activities will include a story walk, nature activities, food trucks, and a tradeshow with giveaways.

Stony Plain Pioneer Museum Harvest Festival
September 30 | See threshing and blacksmithing the way they used to do it with vintage machinery. The day includes plenty of fun for all ages, including gold panning, old time games, a tractor/vehicle parade, mini train rides, live music, a quilt show, and delicious treats for purchase at the on-site Mercantile gift shop.
