It didn’t quite feel like summer around here without all the family fun and entertainment at Fort Edmonton Park. But trust me, the wait for them to reopen will be more than worth it! It’s been a very productive temporary closure at the park, upgrading and enhancing their space before the next season.
In 2021, the park will reopen with a new and exciting living history experience. This includes a 1920’s historical Midway, which highlights the history of Indigenous Peoples. But there’s a catch. The Midway needs lights … lots of them. Keeping in tune with authentic history, Midways are known to be completely illuminated by bulb lighting. This requires Fort Edmonton to string thousands of lights on rides, stalls, games and activities – and they want you to be a part of it!
How Can You Help?
As a way of bringing communities together in support of this special display of history, Fort Edmonton Foundation created the Light The Midway fundraiser. Their goal is to raise 1 Million dollars by selling symbolic light bulbs. Families, communities and businesses can all take part in raising funds for this initiative, either individually or as a team. Each bulb costs $50, but you can donate any amount you feel inspired to give (every single dollar helps!)
They are already off to a great start and will continue collecting donations until May 1, 2021. What a unique opportunity to claim a light in memory of loved one, as a gift to someone special, or simply to help support this local venture. Head to their website to get involved and help Light the Midway at Fort Edmonton Park.
