Each year a massive tree is transported into downtown Edmonton’s Sir Winston Churchill Square and adorned with hundreds of twinkling lights for the holiday season. It is a must see, and the central showpiece to several other festivities planned as part of the YEG Downtown Holiday Light Up!
See the Holiday Tree
The impressive Christmas tree is lit and available for viewing every day from November 20, 2021 to January 2, 2022. The tree is an annual gift from Millar Western and is generously lit by EPCOR. When you’re out this holiday season looking at beautiful light displays, be sure to add Sir Winston Churchill Square to your list of stops. Snap a picture in front of the tree and share it on Instagram with the #YEGLIGHTUP tag.
Saturdays On The Square
The theme is “the more, the merrier” this holiday season with three full Saturdays of lights, music, art and Christmas cheer at Sir Winston Churchill Square. Plan to visit the Square on Saturday November 20, December 4 or December 20 for a multitude of fun family activities happening from noon to 8pm. Get tickets on the Holiday Light Up Express Train, listen to live musical performances, enjoy winter activities with with the Art Gallery of Alberta, John Janzen Nature Centre, and The Reuse Centre, or enjoy an outdoor video screening of the Citadel Theatre’s A Christmas Carol. Each weekend offers slightly different activities, so be sure to check the full schedule online.
