Downtown Holiday Light Up!

The Downtown Business Association will be the first to flip the switch on Christmas at the Downtown Holiday Light Up! Join the fun on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm in Sir Winston Churchill Square. It will be a throwback Christmas party of historic proportions as interpreters from Fort Edmonton Park, the John Walter Museum and the John Janzen Nature Centre set the scene. Churchill Square will be transformed into a winter wonderland with chestnuts roasting on an open fire, maple taffy twisted on snow, fresh bannock from Native Delights and, of course, hot chocolate and Christmas cookies! (These aren’t any cookies – they are famous DoubleTree by Hilton Cookies supplied by the new DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in  the Quarters in Downtown Edmonton!) Classic Carollers and drummers will be leading the holiday revelry – sing along to your holiday favourites! Then feel the rush of magic as the lights come on to signal the official start of the Christmas season! After the outdoor light up, the Citadel Theatre Pavilion will also be lit for the season!

Dickens Fest

Christmas in our city wouldn’t be complete without a visit to The Citadel Theatre for A Christmas Carol. This year the Citadel is marking the 20th anniversary of this Edmonton tradition with a new adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic. Don’t miss this inaugural production of the beloved story of miserly old Scrooge who is inspired to change his ways after an encounter with the ghosts of Christmas!

This year’s production will be accompanied by the second annual Dickens Fest! The Citadel’s Pavilion of Lights will be lit on November 14! Then from November 27 to December 8 enjoy all the festive holiday teas, dinner and a holiday market that make up the Dickens Fest! Look for upcoming events throughout Downtown.
