Children and their families will learn and grow together at La Perle Community Playschool! The “learning through play” environment at La Perle is ideal to help eager young minds to learn and grow, while the cooperative nature of the program fosters an immersive educational experience that extends beyond the walls of the preschool!
La Perle Community Playschool is a non-profit playschool for three and four-year-old children. It’s located in La Perle Elementary School in West Edmonton. As a Parent Cooperative, the playschool depends on a partnership between parents, teachers, and the executive board, to work effectively as a team to provide children with the best early learning experience possible.
The classroom is a dream come true for eager preschoolers! With endless opportunities for fun and learning, children are treated to a new experience each time they enter the classroom! Subject matter includes emergent literacy, numeracy, science concepts, hands-on activities, fine motor skill development, and dramatic play. The playschool routine includes free play, snack time, circle time, show and tell, gym time, special guests, music and movement, parties throughout the year, field trips, and Kindergarten-readiness activities.
Every activity has a goal in mind to help children grow in confidence, socialization and age-appropriate development. With a new theme every 3-4 weeks, engagement is always kept high and kids are encouraged to pursue areas of personal interest and to also branch out and try new things.
The cooperative program design allows families to play a crucial role. Parents have the unique opportunity to experience playschool alongside their child. Parents help is required in the classroom one or two days per month, and parent volunteers support other aspects of the program, including toy cleaning, theme changes, events, and fundraisers. La Perle families say it’s a great way to get to know others in the community and to be involved in their child’s education!
