Les Tournesols Preschool is a warm and welcoming early learning facility, that offers a centre-based program and a gentle introduction to the French language. Located in Ecole Father Jan Elementary School, Les Tournesols is St. Albert’s only French Immersion Preschool, and is a public preschool with no religious affiliations.
The philosophy of Les Tournesols’ program is that children learn best through play. Play allows children to learn about themselves, their world, and how to interact with other people. The goal is for children to have positive experiences that will help develop good attitudes and habits, and support social, physical, intellectual, cultural-creative and emotional growth.
The teachers at Les Tournesols Preschool are highly educated and fluent in French. They believe that each child grows in their own special way, and offer plenty of one-on-one time to provide optimal opportunities to learn. Preparing students for kindergarten is their goal, and it’s achieved by exposing children to a wide variety of fun, educational centres and themes, including puzzles, games, music, crafts, make believe, puppetry, sensory play, books, and toys. Special events are recognized, and field trips and special visitors are part of the curriculum.
Parent duty days are not required at Les Tournesols, but the school has an open door policy and parents are always welcome. The school is operated as a charitable society, and fundraising programs are organized throughout the year, but participation is always invited on a volunteer basis.
The Les Tournesols program is for 3 and 4 year old students, and offers Morning and Afternoon classes, 2 or 3 days per week. Registration is open for the 2018/2019 school year.
