Preschoolers are awesome! They are tiny little sponges, eager to absorb everything they can about the world around them! The formative years are full of fun, exciting days where the energy is high and the downtime is often low. The PlayDay Program understands how wonderful, awe-inspiring, and yes, tiring, long days with your preschooler can be – they offer a twist on the traditional preschool program that gives kids a fun day with their peers, and stay-at-home parents or caregivers a much-needed break!
PlayDay is a parent cooperative that offers parents and caregivers a day off while their children have the chance to socialize, explore, create and learn through play. Children ages 2 through 5 can attend PlayDay one day per week, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm. Small class sizes and the presence of parent volunteers reduce separation anxiety and help create the safe, supportive setting that allows youngsters to flourish in their growth.
The PlayDay program focuses on each child’s individual development when it comes to physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth. PlayDay allows the children to lead the way by offering a wide variety of activities, resources, themes and stations for every interest and stage of development.
The unique learning environment includes childhood favourites like art supplies (play dough, painting, colouring, crafts and more), sensory activities (sand tables, water, rice and even dirt!), toys, puzzles, small world play and role play, books and more. PlayDay also helps children navigate the world around them through lessons on good manners, empathy, sharing and real-life skills like self care and problem solving.
A high importance is put on outdoor exploration, as evidenced by their beautiful Outdoor Classroom. This space includes a mud kitchen, logs, tires, a water hose and eaves troughs. Children have the freedom to enjoy unstructured play here and can explore everything that nature has to offer, from the trees to the bugs!
Students bring with them a lunch and one snack when attending the PlayDay program. The organization operates as a cooperative and parents or caregivers are required to help out in the classroom on a rotating basis. Thanks to that, PlayDay offers very low ratios – each day includes a maximum of 15 registered children, who are cared for by 2 teachers and one volunteer parent helper.
