Summer is here! How are you going to fill your days? You’ll never run out of ideas with our summer family fun checklist. Enjoy your city and province to the fullest! How many of these can you do with your family before we run out of summer?

Summer Family Fun Checklist:

  1. Pack a picnic and enjoy some of our favourite picnic spots.
  2. Take a creative workshops from Edmonton Street Fest (and check out some online performances too!)
  3. Hear the dinosaurs roar at Jurassic Forest.
  4. Cool off at one of the City spray parks.
  5. Whip up some giant bubbles and have some backyard fun.
  6. Go meet the new wallaby joey at Edmonton Valley Zoo.
  7. Explore one of these local playgrounds.
  8. Grab the fishing poles and head to the river … don’t forget to take advantage of FREE Fishing Weekend!
  9. Set up an outdoor movie experience in your backyard.
  10. Try some of the incredible Edmonton Food Trucks and help support local business.
  11. Register for Kids Bowl Free and go bowling.
  12. Go on a hike and play some fun nature games along the way.
  13. Enjoy seven weeks of IndigoKids summer camp activities.
  14. Make a meal from ingredients you found at a local Farmers’ market.
  15. Book your kids a week of friendship, fitness and fun at one of these great Summer Camps!
  16. Get a taste of nature at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre.
  17. Make homemade ice cream in a bag … no fancy equipment needed!
  18. Appreciate the work of local artists at the Whyte Avenue ArtWalk.
  19. Take the kids to a cheap Sunday movie at Landmark Cinemas.
  20. Get lost at the Edmonton Corn Maze.
  21. Break up the boredom with creative craft tutorials from Michaels.
  22. Pick a bucket full of berries at one of these U-Pick Farms in the Edmonton Area.
  23. Make some simple memories at home with these fun crafts, activities and games.
  24. A day at the U of A Botanic Garden is a day well spent.
  25. Find a free little library in your neighbourhood – take a book, share a book!
  26. Putt your way around the indoor mini golf courses at West Edmonton Mall.
  27. Learn a new craft or skill using Creativebug (you need an active library card to access!)
  28. Drive to Smoky Lake and spend a day at Métis Crossing to experience Indigenous culture.
  29. Build a cardboard box fort for your kids to play in.
  30. Try the zipline at Meadowview Dinosaur Park in Leduc.
  31. Go on a geocaching adventure!
  32. Cook up some of these iconic Disney Parks recipes.
  33. Bike the multi-use trails of the River Valley.
  34. Reach new heights at the Snow Valley Aerial Park.
  35. Let the kids try out some online summer activities with Toys “R” Us.
  36. Try out the colourful courses at the ultra-cool Clip ‘N Climb!
  37. Take in an IMAX show at TELUS World of Science Edmonton.
  38. Get your paddle on in a canoe.
  39. Challenge your drawing skills with some online tutorials! We love Art Hub, Doodles with Mo Willems, and Rob Biddulph.
  40. Drive out to Granary Road and spend the day at the Play & Learn Park (reduced admission for 2020!)
  41. Play a round of disc golf.
  42. Fill up some water balloons and let the kids run wild (then make a game of cleaning up…)
  43. Spend a day exploring Writing Stone Provincial Park … there’s rivers, rocks and rattlesnakes!
  44. Check out some local public art – we love the “Vaulted Willow” in Borden Park.
  45. Laugh, play and make memories together with one of these Mini Staycations.
  46. Explore the Chinese garden in Louise McKinney Park.
  47. Raft down the Pembina River.
  48. On a rainy day, colour and assemble a cool paper city (these free templates make it easy and fun for all ages!)
  49. Dip your toes in the water at these family-friendly beaches around Edmonton.
  50. Meet your farming neighbours at Alberta Open Farm Days.
  51. Explore the unbelievable at The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not exhibit in TELUS World of Science Edmonton.
  52. Try to solve some of these tricky digital escape rooms.
  53. Join the TD Summer Reading Club and keep the whole family reading all summer.
  54. See 100,000 smiling sunflowers at Bowden SunMaze.
  55. Pick fruit for a good cause with the Operation Fruit Rescue. You even get to keep some for yourself!
  56. Bring your frisbee to Hawrelak Park.
  57. Set up a tent on the grass and try backyard camping.
