Vimy 100Mark the 100th anniversary of one of the definitive battles of World War I at Vimy 100. The battle at Vimy Ridge was one that historians often point to as a “nation builder.” Although still fighting under Great Britain, Canadian troops were responsible for the victory, won with a heavy cost in lives. On April 9th, 2017 commemorative events will be held across Canada, 100 years later. In Edmonton, head downtown to Churchill Square, where you can:

  • join in a vigil at the centotaph,
  • watch a parade,
  • visit a re-creation of “Camp Vimy” with costumed interpreters,
  • walk the battle map of Vimy Ridge laid over Edmonton to help understand the scale of the area
  • write a wish for Canada for the next 100 years
