“Mommy! It’s Halloween!”</del>

It’s not – it’s actually September 7 – but one peek inside the gates of Calaway Park, near Calgary, tells a very different tale.</del>

The park is decked out with fall decor, spiders, witches, monsters and dozens and dozens of skeletons EVERYWHERE! Skeleton displays line the main entrance – from skeletons selling lemonade to skeletons clowning around with cream pies.</del>

Just beyond the Halloweekend sign inside the main gate you’ll spot an impressive display of witch skeletons on, around and under the tall blue tower. A roped-off area is set up as a witches school. Costumed staff members are milling about, eager to help.</del>

We wander west and come upon Hallotown – the most decorated part of the park that leads visitors, appropriately, to the Haunted House. We didn’t visit the Haunted House on this trip, but I’m pleased to report that the vast majority of the decorations in Hallotown are more sweet than scary. One of my daughters is VERY leery of creepy decor, and there was only one thing in the whole park that she pointed out to me as “scary”.</del>

There are photo ops aplenty along Hallotown, including skeletons seated on almost every bench! Snap away, because photos tagged with #sharaeablemagic on Instagram could win a lucky visitor a pack of four season passes for the 2020 season!</del>

Costumes are everywhere too! Many Calaway team members are getting into the spirit of the season – from the Dill Pickle running the “Scary-O-Kee” singing station to a faux-tattooed Slash manning the gate at the Cinemagic 3D theatre.</del>

We spotted Snow White and the Evil Queen posing for photos throughout the day at the Meet & Greet station. Different characters will be on site each day of Halloweekends.</del>

While we did see several visitors test-driving their Halloween gear, the weekend to costume-watch is going to be September 14 and 15, 2019 – the Boo Crew Costume Party! In addition to all the usual Calaway fun there will also be special activities and prizes throughout the day both Saturday and Sunday!</del>

Halloweekends put a new twist on all the usual fun you can find at Calaway Park. (Read more about the rides, games, shows and deals HERE in my blog from our July visit!) While the campground is closed for the season, there are still a number of Calgary Hotels that offer “Family Fun Hotel Package” deals. Or, make a day trip – Calaway Park is just a 3 hour drive from Edmonton. Fall hours are 11 am to 6 pm – perfect for a single day visit!</del>
