Shumka: Back to Our Roots<\/a> is taking centre stage at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on April 23 and 24, 2026! This vibrant, high-energy performance showcases the spirit of Ukrainian dance by delving deep into its origins and incorporating movement, music, and timeless traditions. Drawing inspiration from Shumka\u2019s rich history, the program brings together breathtaking dances from every corner of Ukraine, embodying the passion of its region and revealing how landscapes, history, and tight-knit communities shape the unique style and energy of Ukrainian dance.<\/p>\n

\"Shumka:<\/a><\/p>\n

For more than six decades, the world-renowned Shumka Dance Company has wowed audiences across Canada and around the world, earning recognition for its artistry and showmanship. In Edmonton, Shumka is more than a dance company; they help build community through their dance camps and are part of many families’ holiday traditions through their annual Christmas shows.<\/p>\n

With their latest production, Shumka: Back to Our Roots, the spotlight is on the dancers, who command the stage with their athleticism, precision, and musicality. Audiences will be swept into a whirlwind of movement and emotion, discovering the heart of Ukrainian culture through a performance that is both thrilling and inviting. This is Ukrainian dance as you\u2019ve never seen it before: fresh, dynamic, and a true showcase for one of Canada\u2019s most celebrated dance companies.<\/p>\n

Shumka: Back to Our Roots<\/a> will feature a Thursday student matinee and a Friday evening performance at Edmonton\u2019s Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
