Family Fun Edmonton is dedicated to sharing information with Edmonton and area parents about the best places to go, things to do, and fun to have – and who knows more about those things than local Moms! Moms chat, share tips and spread the word when they find something GREAT. Meet a local ‘Mom about town’ and learn more about her parenting journey, local adventures and life in the city in this new feature blog YEG MOMS YAK!
You may not know her name, but you probably know her work! Kadra Farah is the artist, creater, founder and owner of Edmonton’s newest children’s art studio, Paper Scissors Paint! Kadra understands what kids love about art – the freedom to play, explore and experiment and she’s created the perfect venue to optimize this creativity! Her studio is dedicated to process art, allowing kids the opportunity to truly create from the heart without any expectation on the outcome. Kadra and her husband are parents to three adorable children – Ayesha, 6; Qorane, 3 and Amri, 20 months. As Kadra’s studio explodes in popularity, she was kind enough to be featured as the sixth mom in our YEG MOMS YAK series!
What makes this area great for raising a family?
Edmonton is a fun artistic city and there’s no shortage of events for all ages in every season. I’m from Ottawa, but I’m happy to call this beautiful city my home.
What are your favourite Edmonton places to visit and things to do with your family?
We love our walks down the river valley. That’s a tradition Morley and I have been doing since before the kids were born and we still continue to do it… but now it involves some running to catch up with them!
I love coffee shops! There’s something about locally owned coffee shops… they buzz with a vibrancy you can’t feel anywhere else. (side note, I love that they remember my name and my favorite drink 😉 now that’s top notch customer service!) My favourite is KB & Co. in Windermere… I’m hooked on their turmeric tea and everything on the menu. I also love the kashmiri chai and samosas at Remedy, Terwillegar. Columbian Coffee has hands down the best lattes and coffee in the city.
What are your kids favourite Edmonton places to visit and things to do?
The park is always a hit… and if it’s a spray park well that’s even better! We get an annual membership to TELUS World of Science Edmonton, which is a great deal and the kids love it! The Muttart Conservatory is also a favourite, and we can’t wait for it to reopen in 2021… it’s a place of inspiration for all of us.
We also love horseback riding at Whitemud Equestrian Centre with my oldest – she’s a natural! Our family books a special, private family time at Paper Scissors Paint once a month. The floor is open for the kids to do anything they want and they come up with the activities!
