Propel Your Young Scholar Toward Success: Nova Scotia Debate Camp

Want to avoid the academic ‘summer slide’? How about propelling your child into academic success, by allowing them to practice their thinking and reasoning skills – and make new friends – at Debate Camp this summer!

Debate Camp creates a learning experience in a safe, welcoming, fun, and intellectually-engaging environment for children in grades 5-11. The program is meant to appeal to all ability levels, from the reluctant speaker to the already-accomplished debater.

Campers will gain confidence and skills, through daily debating, public speaking and Model UN activities . Children are divided into groups by age and debating experience and debates happen in partnerships with a focus on teamwork.

Having prepared, teams will engage in a parliamentary-style debate, with topics appropriate to their age and experience. For example, students from grade 5 -7 might debate banning zoos, while advanced debaters from grade 11 might argue for (or against) the creation of an elected Senate in Canada.

Campers at Debate Camp come together from many different schools and backgrounds. They return home saying not only, “I had so much fun”, but also, “I learned so much”!

“I felt immersed in the ‘debateosphere,’ met a lot of new people, and got valuable feedback from incredibly qualified judges. One of the best camps I’ve been to! Thank you for this valuable experience.” – Camper testimonial

“Three of our children attended Debate camp and LOVED it! Our daughter, who does competitive debating through her school, said it was the most helpful debate coaching program she has attended; and our sons, for whom this was an introduction to debating, are now hooked! We are really grateful to all of the staff for doing such a fantastic job, and we can’t wait for summer camp!” – Parent testimonial
