Are you looking for a meaningful summer camp experience where your child will have the opportunity to meet new friends, build confidence and learn skills to last a lifetime? How about propelling your child into academic success, by allowing them to practice their thinking and reasoning skills – and empowering them to take risks- at Debate Camp this summer!
Debate Camp creates a learning experience in a safe, welcoming, fun, and intellectually engaging environment for children in grades 5-10. The program is meant to appeal to all ability levels, from the reluctant speaker to the already-accomplished debater.
Campers will gain confidence and skills, through daily debating, public speaking, and ModelUN activities . Children are divided into groups by age and debating experience and debates happen in partnerships with a focus on teamwork.
Having prepared, teams will engage in a parliamentary-style debate, with topics appropriate to their age and experience. For example, students from grades 5 -7 might debate ‘shoes being optional everywhere you go’, while advanced debaters might argue for (or against) ‘the production of biofuels causes food insecurity’.
Campers at Debate Camp come together from many different schools and backgrounds. They return home saying not only, “I had so much fun”, but also, “I learned so much”!
Debate Camp prioritizes the health and safety of all campers and staff and will ensure local health protocols are strictly adhered to for the duration of the program. They have a Health Partnership approach for all camps in 2021.
“Our son came home every day excited to explain what he had learned, and enthusiastic to get back to camp the next day. This camp incorporated fun, education, and an enriching experience for its campers. Outstanding camp and will highly recommend it.” – Toronto parent – 2018
“Debate has introduced and taught me skills to always question ideas, beliefs, and concepts that we often commonly accept in society. In short, debate has opened my world up! I find I am now looking for how to make connections and consider how things are all interconnected. I am no longer willing to accept things without thoroughly examining them from all angles.” – Ontario camper – 2020
