Discover Dine around with kids! Dine Around is a month-long foodie event celebrating Nova Scotia’s innovative culinary scene with specially-curated lunch and dinner menus at fixed prices. The event runs from February 1st-28th featuring special deals at restaurants and hotels in the Halifax region – and beyond.
Organized by Discover Halifax in partnership with The Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia, Dine Around is a great excuse to get out of the cold and enjoy warm restaurant hospitality. Designed with the millennial crowd in mind, a series of unique set menus priced at $10.00 – $50.00 offers delicious trendy dishes and cocktails. But there’s plenty for families too!

This year, restaurants are offering take out menus (as well as dine-in) so that everyone can enjoy their dining experience at their own comfort level. There are also plenty of family friendly options like Burnside Pizza in Dartmouth,Tom’s Family Restaurant in Lower Sackville, or Jake’s Family Restaurant in the beautiful town of Yarmouth. The Dine Around website is updated daily throughout the month of February, with new restaurants being added all the time.
Dine Around appeals to hungry millennials…but there are plenty of options for families too!
The Dine Around website is easy to use, with search filters for those with food sensitivities or preferences. You can also filter by price. So let’s say you are looking for a $10.00 take-out lunch in Downtown Halifax, the website will lead you to a few places, including Brawta Jamaican Jerk Joint on Grafton Street in Halifax where you can have a choice of Jamaican style curried chicken, stew chicken, bbq chicken or jerk chicken on top of creamy mashed potatoes and a side of veggies. Vegan options include jerk or bbq tofu, curry chickpeas or meatless pea stew! NOW you’re on vacation, right?
If you really want to focus on “vacation” food, who not try more international flavours like Mary’s African Cuisine in Halifax, Mr. Gonzalez Mexican Cuisine in Yarmouth, or Kyo Kitchen and Bar in Halifax? For a seaside treat, head to the Sou’Wester at Peggy’s Cove for a lobster dinner for two, for only $30.00 (the Sou’wester has a kids menu too).
Fancy a taste of Africa? Mary’s African Cuisine is offers a West African barbecue and a drink for $20.00
If you want to take your Dine Around with kids experience a step further, you can book a Dine and Stay Hotel Package at a special rate. Perfect for family fun, the Jack up your Stay package offers a hotel room at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Dartmouth Crossing, with one king or two queen beds, and a $50.00 gift card from Jack Astor’s, for $149.00 plus tax, including a carry-out breakfast. The big draw (apart from a possible side-trip to IKEA?) is the hotel waterslide at the Hampton Inn. For safety, pool time must be booked in advance.
The Delta Hotels for Marriot in Dartmouth offers a family-friendly Dine and Stay package.
The Dine and Stay package at the Delta Hotels by Marriot offers a similar deal: one night’s accommodation plus a $50.00 dining credit to the Pitch & Pivot Social Room starting at $139.00.
