March is an exciting month in Downtown Halifax. The days are growing longer, the weather is getting warmer, and March Break adventures are in full effect.  Home to major attractions, exciting events and activities galore, there is no shortage of family-friendly fun to be had in Downtown Halifax this March Break.

A hub of activity, Downtown Halifax will be celebrating an action-packed month of events. You will see world-class sports like the U Sports Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship (March 10th-12th), and our very own Thunderbirds and Mooseheads will be hosting home games at Scotiabank Centre.

Eat your weight in burgers during Halifax Burger Bash (March 23rd-April 1st), and check out tons of family-friendly restaurants and cafes Downtown. Many restaurants and bars will have extended hours and specials for St. Patrick’s Day, a very exciting day in Halifax, and The St. Patrick’s Day Parade (March 12th) will kick off March Break will a bang.

Be sure to take advantage of all the fun things to do when you are Downtown, including strolling the waterfront, attending exhibitions, and taking in the last few weeks of DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN. Check out the light installations at Peace and Friendship Park and the projections on the former Halifax Memorial Library at Grafton Park. These beautiful light shows with be on display nightly between sunset and 11:00 pm and will remain until the end of the month.

Downtown Halifax March Break

With a long list of world-class attractions, there will be lots of family-friendly things to do this March break (March 13th-17th). You will have the opportunity to meet over ten gigantic metal dinosaurs at the Dinosaurs in Motion exhibit at the Discovery Centre, or reintroduce yourself to the works of famous folk artist, Maud Lewis, at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 and The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic have also scheduled fun activities and extended hours for March Break festivities.

Downtown Halifax is your ultimate getaway for a family-friendly staycation with its many luxury hotels. Most have pools, and are dog-friendly, so don’t leave your bathing suits and your fur babies behind. While you are exploring, there is no need to worry about parking. There will be some free on-street parking in Zone B and lots of affordable parking spaces. Additionally, the Alderney/ Halifax ferry service, in partnership with Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission and Halifax Transit, will be free from 11:00 am-2:00 pm on March 13th-18th.
