So another year is upon us and as we welcome 2019, we can look forward to a new chapter of family fun and making memories with the ones we love! Any month that starts off with a holiday, is destined to be a great one… and although the weather might be a bit frightful, we have lots of great events going on this month for the whole family to enjoy. Bundle up and get ready for 2019!

New Years Day Levees (January 1): The New Years Day Levee is a wholly Canadian event! Wish your friends and neighbours a ‘Happy 2019’ at the annual levees around town including the one hosted by our Mayor and the one hosted by our Lieutenant Governor. Take your family to these free community events – a wonderful New Year’s Tradition!
Hatfield Farm Holiday Family Roundup (January 1-2): Looking for some outdoor family fun to start off the New Year? Head to Hatfield Farm for a wagon or sleigh ride adventure into the woods, with 3 departures daily at 11am, 12pm and 1pm over the holiday weekend.
Cinderella At Neptune Theatre (January 2-13): Cinderella has been so popular over the holidays that it has been extended to January 13th. This age-old tale of cinderella, her fairy godmother and her Prince Charming has gotten great reviews and is a performance the whole family will enjoy.
Little Ray’s Wildlife Festival (January 10-13): Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo is combining forces with FARE and Nashwaak Valley Farms and returning to Halifax with the Little Ray’s Wildlife Festival – an enormous wildlife extravaganza that your kids will LOVE! The 15,000 square foot exhibit will feature over 30 live animal exhibits at the Halifax Forum for 4 days of wildlife fun!
Symphony Nova Scotia Family Series (January 12-13):There are still a few tickets available for ‘New Scotland’ – the first of the 2019 Symphony Nova Scotia Family Series. They invite you to celebrate with an afternoon of dance, fiddle, and fun… a true kitchen party the whole family can enjoy.
Ross Farm Winter Frolic (January 12-13): Winter Frolic at Ross Farm Museum – what a beautiful way to spend a family day in January! Enjoy their winter wonderland with a sleigh ride, a delicious cup of hot chocolate, a toboggan ride and snowshoeing.
AGNS Family Sunday (January 20): Come and create with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia at their Family Sunday Event. This month’s theme, Pjila’si (Welcome), celebrates Mi’kmaw language and culture.
A Royal Afternoon at Chapters Dartmouth (January 20): It’s going to be ‘A Royal Afternoon’ of fun at Chapters Dartmouth! Join them for story time and crafts, then meet your favourite royals from books, movies and games.
Star Gazing at York Redoubt (January 25): Explore the night sky with the Young Naturalists Club and members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Enjoy an evening of star-gazing with their powerful telescopes that will allow you to see celestial bodies like moons and nebula!
