The Unicorn Theatre is a true gem in the heart of St. Margaret’s Bay! This Youth Theatre grew out of a drama camp held at the Shore Club in Hubbards in 1995. The enthusiasm and talent of the young actors was so impressive that the camp organizers then established a year-round children’s theatre. The theatre’s first production, Annie, was performed in March 1996 and five years later, the theatre moved to its current home, the Bay Community Centre.

The Unicorn Theatre boasts a full program of theatrical activities for young theatre enthusiasts from grades 2 to 12. They present two major productions a year (casting by audition) in the Fall and in the Spring.

What makes this non-profit theatre unique is that it is a co-operative completely run by volunteers under the guidance of a Board of Directors. The ‘Unicorn Family’ includes the children, parents, volunteers and the working board of directors that collaborate to create this child-centred culture of respect that is the Unicorn Theatre. The goals of the program are to provide an environment for the children to gain confidence and self assurance as they learn to speak in public and work as a team, while having lots of fun. Through hard work and commitment, these rising stars present two full theatre productions each year, complete with a well-deserved cast party at the end of the show!

The Unicorn Theatre not only gives young people the chance to perform, it also offers them the opportunity to learn more about theatre and other performing arts.
