It’s all about connections with amazing people, discovering the mysterious giants of the sea, and exploring your passions. Whale Camp, on the beautiful Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick, offers a chance to learn all about marine biology, in an experiential, hands-on way. It’s a summer camp experience to remember for kids ages 10 – 17 and an opportunity for kids and teens to discover who they are and what fascinates them!

Whale Camp offers non-traditional educational programs in marine biology. Their location in the Bay of Fundy offers learning opportunities from the land to the sea. They use hands-on, discovery-oriented marine science activities to increase awareness of the living systems of our oceans and planet. There is so much to explore on Grand Manan Island! Qualified and caring instructors guide youth through learning in the field. Kids will spend time on the boat looking for dolphins, whales, seals, and sharks, and on land searching tidepools, checking out geological formations, and exploring bog and marsh ecosystems.

Summer Camps

The Whale Camp campus has acres of land to explore. There’s a sandy beach accessible at low tide, where campers play games, explore the intertidal algae, and make beach art. There are two dormitories, a kitchen, and a canteen for snacks and merch. Days are filled with fascinating activities and evenings hold recreational games on the beach and playing fields, labs in the indoor hall, town hall debates, and Friday night campfires!

Kids and teens ages 10 – 17 are invited to join the camp programs at Whale Camp. One and two-week programs are available, where kids will go whale watching, visit a puffin nesting colony, and participate in experiential lessons in the field. These hands-on lessons cover everything from marine mammal physiology and behaviour, geology, and tidepool ecology to bog, marsh, and forest ecology.

Basic Fundy Ecology (One Week): This camp includes two days of sea exploration as campers observe and research whales and marine life, collecting data on the boat. Campers will also enjoy a trip to Machias Seal Island, where they’ll observe puffins, razorbills, and murres, plus an optional half-day coastal kayak tour.

Advanced Fundy Ecology (Two Weeks): The two-week camp covers the foundational knowledge from the one-week camps, but includes four days of sea exploration and optional weekend activities. Campers will also participate in a research and charting workshop and visit the local farmers market. There will be an opportunity for an overnight tenting experience and an extra 1/2 day guided kayak trip.
