Whether you live in Halifax or Dartmouth, there\u00a0is an amazing playground on the<em> other<\/em> side. This means great views, and awesome maritime family fun on both sides of the harbour.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29238\" src=\"https:\/\/www.familyfuncanada.com\/halifax\/files\/2016\/03\/Dartmouth-Waterfront.jpg\" alt=\"Dartmouth Waterfront\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.familyfuncanada.com\/halifax\/files\/2016\/03\/Dartmouth-Waterfront.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.familyfuncanada.com\/halifax\/files\/2016\/03\/Dartmouth-Waterfront-600x300.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.familyfuncanada.com\/halifax\/files\/2016\/03\/Dartmouth-Waterfront-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The best part? You can enjoy this family day out for the price of bus fare. So, first, pack some water and snacks, or even a picnic. Then, depending on which side of the harbour you wish to begin your adventure, follow these directions:<\/p>\n<h2>From Halifax<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Start at\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Halifax Ferry Terminal<\/strong>.\u00a0On the weekends, the Ferry Departs on the hour and the half hour. You can view the full ferry schedule <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halifax.ca\/transit\/Schedules\/documents\/FerryAlderney.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>At the time of writing, an adult fare\u00a0is $2.50 and a child fare (aged 5-15) is $1.75. Children under 5 years old travel free. You need exact change, or a bus ticket (You can buy books of 10 tickets in advance at places like Lawton&#8217;s Drugstore).<\/li>\n<li>Request a transfer for each passenger. A transfer is good for 90 minutes, so you might be able to use it for the journey back.<\/li>\n<li>Take the short journey\u00a0to <strong>Alderney Landing<\/strong>. If it&#8217;s a nice day, go to the \u00a0top of the boat, and enjoy the view. When our kids were young, we lied and told them that <strong>McNab&#8217;s Island<\/strong> was actually The Island of Sodor. We invite you to do the same&#8230;if you are <em>that<\/em> kind of parent!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you arrive in Dartmouth, turn right and walk a few metres to the <strong>Kiwanis Playground<\/strong>. This is a great playrgound for kids of all ages. This is where you are going to get some nice views of the bridges and the Halifax waterfront. Go past <strong>Theodore Tugboat<\/strong>, \u00a0<strong>Murphy&#8217;s on the Water<\/strong>, and all the food merchants and tourist stalls. On your right, opposite the <strong>Tourist Information<\/strong> building, is the <b>Orange Submarine<\/b>. The Submarine Playground is awesome &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ternboatworks.com\/about\/current\/submarine\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">designed and built by local shipbuilders, Tern Boatworks<\/a>. Your kids will have a great time.
