Kids 10+ Can Experience a Unique Driving Experience with kartSTART! {Discount Code }

kartSTART FunLearning

“Driving is a life skill, and we give our students the first step in that process.” – Russ Bond, kartSTART owner

Think about your first experience in the driver’s seat. Maybe it was on the farm, behind the wheel of a tractor. Did you go out with one of your parents to an empty parking lot, quietly learning what the pedals do? Or was it shortly after gaining your learner’s permit, white-knuckled at the wheel of mom’s station wagon with your uncle spouting tips of questionable quality? Your kids can have an entirely different, safer, and certainly more fun experience when kartSTART rolls into your city this summer.

KartSTART, presented by Toyota Canada, travels across Canada to select cities each summer, providing a unique driving experience for kids. This educational and entertaining driver orientation program helps young drivers understand how a vehicle works and provides an opportunity for kids to operate a motor vehicle and understand safety procedures prior to them obtaining a driver’s license, later in life. This half-day course is available to kids 10 years of age and older (14 years of age and older for the accessible hand-controlled karts) and their families.

New this year, kartSTART is proud to offer accessible hand-control karts! These hand-controlled karts look identical to their standard go-kart but with all the controls on the steering wheel to enable those with a lower body impairment to drive the karts. Please note: participants using the hand-control karts must be a minimum of 14 years of age to participate due to the increased upper body strength required to control the throttle, brakes and steering in unison.

KartSTART’s experienced instructors start the session with a safety briefing, then show kids the basics of how the kart operates before leading them around the track. Participants learn to operate a motor vehicle that is more proportionate to their size than a car, and they learn the basics of driving, including, the steering, throttle, brakes and most importantly, how these components work together. This hands-on learning reinforces that driving is more than just pressing the accelerator; it takes concentration, forethought, reflex, and skill to maintain control on the road.

“The kartSTART program is very unique in several ways,” says kartSTART owner, Russ Bond. “The key is we teach youngsters in vehicles that fit them: our karts. What we teach here is how a vehicle works. What makes it go, what makes it stop, and what makes it turn.  We teach our students what is happening to the vehicle as they drive down the road. Every journey starts with a first step; our job is to make sure that our families’ first step is in the right direction.”

The half-day kartSTART driving experience includes the use of a professional racing kart, instruction by qualified teachers, use of Snell-approved helmet and CIK suit, safety driving exercises, and a catered light lunch.

Parents and family members are welcome to watch and take loads of photos! And if you want to get in on the fun too, adults can register to participate in the program with their children. This will be an experience the kids (and parents) will NEVER forget!

How do I register?

Participants must be 10 years of age or older (14 years of age or older for the hand-controlled karts), weigh between 60 and 260 pounds, and physically able to control the go-kart. Adults are welcome to participate with their children, but must also be registered as there is limited space available in each session. Register online at www.kartstart.ca
