Summer already seems so long ago, but I’ve been thinking back on all of the fun we had. There was a point in my summer when I was worried we weren’t doing enough, and I wasn’t giving my son enough summer experiences. I’m sure many parents feel the same way when they have to balance work and adventure. I was looking back on my photos, and now I see this was the summer we explored. We explored our backyard, we explored Saskatoon, events, Saskatchewan, and beyond. There are always more festivals, more places, and more adventures to have, but I think we did pretty well in the summer of 2025.

The Summer We Went on a Big Fun Bike Ride

the summer we explored

Life Outside Gear Exchange sells everything you need for the outdoors, but they also hold events, like the first ever Saskatoon’s Big Fun Bike Ride. My son and I love riding bikes, and are especially motivated for the big bike rides in May and June. When we heard about this community bike ride, we know we had to add it to our list of summer fun. We joined a group in the morning, and followed a long a path along the river, stopping for treats and games along the way back to the store. We ended the adventure with a barbeque at the store.

The Summer We Picked Peonies at Black Fox

Flowers in June, July and August! We went to pick early, but can spend any summer days surrounded by flowers at Black Fox. (And of course, pumpkins in the fall.)

The Summer We Tried New Food and Drinks

We can’t say no to a new food truck (or drink truck!) Soda Stop opened up this summer, and we could not be happier. We also tried to stop at as many ice cream shops as we could.

The Summer We Enjoyed the Lake

Canoe Ride at Blackstrap

I will be the first to admit, we did not get to the amazing Saskatchewan lakes as much as I had hoped, but when we did, we made the best of it. We canoed on Blackstrap. We also went to Pike Lake with some friends and when swimming and out for a ride on the paddle boat.

The Summer We Picked Berries

This Summer, we did our usual Saskatoon Berry Picking at Rhodes Raspberries, and then we added strawberry picking to Prairie Pathways. It’s the perfect and most delicious way to get out with the family.

The Summer We Went to the Urban Games

We were SO excited when we heard the Urban Games were coming back to Saskatoon. We loved watching the sports, trying out new things, and enjoying downtown Saskatoon.

The Summer We Learned to Skateboard

My son and I got skateboards last summer, and I did some you tube lessons. This year, we decided to take some lessons together through Right to Skate. We have now learned the basics, but will definitely need to take more lessons next year. (I only fell a couple of times!)

The Summer We Fringed

We are BIG Fringers. When the Saskatoon Fringe starts, you can find us there almost every day enjoying the plays, the street performers, and the food!

The Summer We Went to the Mountains

Not only did my son get to see his first mountains in Jasper, but he got to climb his first mountain and ride up a Jasper Skytram, find waterfalls, go ziplining and so much more. We unlocked a lot of core memories.

The Summer We Fed Chickadees

We do this every season, but we had to stop by with some friends to feed the chickadees at Beaver Creek.

The Summer We Crafted

We spent a lot of time in the backyard. We planted our garden, watched the bugs and the birds, and we did some crafting. Notable crafting this year were the day we did some tie dying, and the day we built a HUGE pirate ship out of a box.

The Summer We Went to the Saskatchewan Railway Museum

The Summer We Explored

This has been on my list for a while. We went when my son was much younger, and decided to make a 2025 visit at the end of August. My son is now the perfect age to appreciate all the work they’ve put into this outdoor museum.

The Summer We Explored has been great fun. Now, we are moving onto the Fall we explore even more. If you are looking for your own fall/winter adventures, make sure to check out our event calendar.
