Camp KinasaoWeek in the Wild

Camp Kinasao has been developing this program for over 7 years with the help of skilled and knowledgeable canoe and camping experts. Their 4-level program is designed to start by exposing younger campers to outdoor living for the first time and, as they grow-up, to provide them with the skills to navigate, paddle, set up camp, and cook. Campers gain a fresh perspective through this program as they experience living in nature away from the distractions of our world. The things they discover about themselves, the community they build with one another, and the connection they make with God while on these trips is truly special and unique. Each level is accompanied by a guide, lifeguard, and male and female counsellors.

Level 1
This week is for kids with no prior experience camping or canoeing. They spend the week sleeping in tents at campsites in the woods a 10 minute walk from the main camp. Each morning they work together to prepare their breakfast and after dishes they head to the lake for canoe practice. Other skills they learn include knot-tying and shelter building. On Thursday they paddle accross the lake for an overnight canoe trip. Younger campers may stay at this level for 2 or more summers, until they are strong enough to paddle for multiple hours in a row.

Cost: $325 + 5% GST
Ages: 10-14
Dates: Sunday, June 30 – Friday, July 5, 2019

Level 2
This level focuses on gaining canoe experience. Campers will spend many hours on the lake each day praticing paddling techniques. The week includes 2 overnight trips on nearby lakes to get campers comfortable setting up and packing the camp each day and working together to meet the group’s needs. During this level, campers also learn important emergency survival skills. Individuals with proven experience camping and paddling may be able to enter the program at this level.

Cost: $325 + 5% GST
Ages: 11-14
Dates: Sunday, July 14 – Friday, July 19 , 2019

Level 3
Campers who have completed level 2 are invited on a 4-day canoe trip on the South Saskatchewan River. The river introduces campers to paddling on moving water and is sure to be a great team-bonding adventure for everyone. Campers are expected to take more responsibility during this trip as they work together to choose camping locations and prepare meals.

Cost: $325 + 5% GST
Ages: 12-15
Dates: Sunday, July 7 – Friday, July 12, 2019

Level 4
Each year the campers who have completed Level 3 travel to Northern Saskatchewan for a trip like no other. They navigate the many lakes and islands of the Churchill River System and depending on conditions get to try their hand shooting a small rapid or two. By this point, campers have been with the same group for a few years and have grown into a family of sorts. They know how to work as a team and use their individual strengths to support other’s weaknesses. Many participants consider this the best week of their year and continue to return until they graduate high school.
