My kids love to read! If I could describe life in isolation in just two words they would be: Harry Potter. Our books are literally wearing out! No joke. Not a fan myself so I’m looking to perhaps diversify what the family is consuming, and I’ve discovered a few awesome things for kids (and adults) who love reading as much as we do…<\/p>\n
Yes, I said I was trying to diversify our reading interests, but if your kids have the bug or you want them to you can’t miss out on this generous offering from J.K. Rowling herself, which includes free access to the first book.<\/p>\n
Oh, this is a feast! With a library card number (which is very easy to get if you don’t have one), you have access to free books and literature (with guidance by grade level), EXTENDED access to ebooks and audiobooks, language learning, movies, music, newspapers, magazines, reference materials, and even car repair! If the readers in your house haven’t accessed this amazing resource, you’re missing out.<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve heard that American Girl is opening their online library and offering a few books each week for free. Check it out for both a fiction and a non-fiction option each week.<\/p>\n
Millions of free books, movies, music, software and websites? Hell ya!<\/p>\n
Project Gutenberg offers books that are free of copyright in the US, making them an option for some classics. Sometimes this means that the book may not be free of copyright in other countries, so your success at obtaining these free books may vary.<\/p>\n
Prefer physical books? (Me, too.) Now that the schools are closed, Scholastic Canada has changed their options and you can have books shipped directly to your house (shipping and handling is 10% of your pre-tax order, with a minimum payment of $6.).<\/p>\n
Maybe your kids would prefer an audiobook. Audible is offering thousands of titles for free right now and there are even some that the parents might enjoy.<\/p>\n
If you have little ones, check out the Saskatoon Public Library’s Virtual Storytimes Monday thru Saturdays at 10:30am.<\/p>\n
The books aren’t free, but the shipping is for those who just HAVE to have a paper copy.<\/p>\n
Abebooks is my go-to for used books. And our rule for packages coming in is that they stay outside for 72 hours before bringing them in.<\/p>\n
