We decided a summer visit to Champetre County was in order. The last time we went was for a Winter Wonderland Sleigh Ride<\/a>. We loved the visit then, and we loved it this time. They have Summer Daily Drop-Ins<\/a> and we couldn’t wait to see Champetre County in summer. The drive down is always nice and easy, and my son spent the drive guessing where we were going. He guessed it right before we arrived with help from a couple of hints. (This is his favourite game. He loves surprises and guessing.)<\/p>\n

We’ve been there before, but we love exploring the area. We move from area to area at my son’s pace (slow.) We started with the swings and admiring the trees.<\/p>\n

Last time, his favourite part was definitely the maze. This time, it was the animals. He fell in love with ALL of them! They had cats (HE LOVES THEM), a pup, goats, rabbits, chicks and more.<\/p>\n

He loved feeding the goats. He kept going back to talk to them and make friends.<\/p>\n

He also fell in love with this rabbit. He got to hold the little guy, and we learned a little about them. They have a moveable home so they will always have fresh grass to chomp on.<\/p>\n

Our next stop was to talk to a visiting horse. This horse was lovely and came to visit us right away. My son fell in love and could have spent the entire day hanging out with our new friend.<\/p>\n

Our next stop was the Lost Corral Maze. I was having a tiny amount of anxiety about this maze because we really got lost last time! My son was all for the challenge. He doesn’t remember getting lost as much as he remembers the adventure we had finding our way out. They made some changes this time, and I’m happy to say we successfully made it out of the entire maze. (I did have to dodge a few spider webs though, and ran into a couple!)<\/p>\n

We were so excited about making it out without a lot of trouble that my son gave our adventure in the Lost Corral Maze two thumbs up. After the congratulatory photo, we made a mistake. I blame my five-year-old. He suggested we do it again because we did so well the first time. We went back in. We got lost. We found some of the hidden items in it though. We only made it through the first part of the maze, and we just barely made it out. (I may be exaggerating, but we definitely went around in circles and found a lot of dead ends.) Once we made it out, we made the wise decision to move on to see everything else. My son just wanted to visit the animals again. When we walked away he told me we were never going into the maze again – BUT a week later and he was already discussing a trip back to go in the maze.<\/p>\n

My son found a cat that he fell in love with, and I enjoyed the view. They also have cabins to stay in. It seems like a perfect family vacation away from the city. It would also be perfect for us because my son never wants to leave when he’s having fun.<\/p>\n

Our last stop of the day was back to the animals. We were introduced to some baby chicks, and my kid went crazy for them. He wanted to hold all of them. He also, unfortunately, thought he was a ‘chick wrangler’ so I hope the poor chicks weren’t very too traumatized.<\/p>\n

Leaving Champetre County was NOT easy. My son was ready to put his foot down and have a stubborn five-year-old-sized argument about why we should stay. He is very stubborn. Luckily, they have a store. I was able to convince him to leave with a treat for the ride home. They also have dine-in services and I’d love to check out the food sometime. Maybe when we spend the night.<\/p>\n

Saskatchewan is full of hidden gems, and this beautiful place is one of them. It’s wonderful in any season, and worth a visit or two (or more). We’re so happy we have it around for day trips.<\/p>\n
