When I was a kid, I remember my parents bringing my sister and me into the city to watch the Harlem Globetrotters. I don’t remember a lot about the game but I do know we laughed a lot. My memories are happy ones from that experience. We went once as adults with the same group and I think the one thing that was missing was having a kid to share our laughter. When I saw they were coming to SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, I knew this was my year to take my son. He’s 8 and loves watching sports and laughing. My mom got us some tickets for Christmas and we took him to the game on January 8, 2025.\u00a0 Even while we waited for the main event, they entertained the audience.<\/p>\n

\"Harlem

The mascots dance moves.<\/p><\/div>\n

I think that the mascots – Globie and Big G – could have their own show and keep the audience entertained all night. Lucky us, we got to watch the game and the mascots. If you’ve never been to a Harlem Globetrotters game, it’s an experience. The Globetrotters<\/a> compete against The Washington Generals in a basketball game full of pauses, rewinds and comedy. If you’re going with the expectation of just a basketball game, you won’t get it – you’ll get more. While there, you get to watch tricks, jokes, dancing and more. The players are there to entertain the audience. My son started cheering for the Generals for a while because he felt sad that they don’t win (spoiler alert).<\/p>\n

Half-Time<\/p><\/div>\n

Listening to my son’s awe over the cool moves and tricks and his laughter at the silliness and jokes was worth the later night. The only thing he was sad about was that he wasn’t picked for audience participation. He loves the chance to be the center of attention. While he wasn’t picked (we were in the wrong seats for that), he did love watching the other people who were. He had a blast and the energy level of the players, kept his energy level throughout the night.<\/p>\n

Continued laughs and action.<\/p><\/div>\n

When the game ended, audience members were invited to get autographs and meet the Globetrotters. My son was devastated when we told him it was time to go home and go to bed. Unfortunately, it was a school night and sleep was very important. I promised him we would stay longer when they returned to the city. We are already excited for the next time they’re in Saskatoon and my son has a list of things he’s looking forward to, including the audience participation and meeting the players.
