The holidays have officially started and the kids may already be bouncing off the walls! We have a great list of inexpensive things to do in Saskatoon! My family loves budget-friendly activities during winter because Christmas tends to be expensive. Hopefully, they will help make your holidays full of fun without costing a lot. Enjoy these inexpensive winter activities in Saskatoon.<\/p>\n

Inexpensive Things to Do in Saskatoon<\/h2>\n

Have a Family Potluck Party<\/strong> \u2013 Nothing spells Christmas quite like food and friends! Why not share some holiday cheer with loved ones and split the cooking potluck style?<\/p>\n

Check out Saskatoon’s Best Christmas Lights Displays<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 What better activity to fill some of those long, dark winter hours? It’s a guaranteed easy and fun night out with your family.<\/p>\n

Skate at an Outdoor Rink<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Just another awesome FREE activity in Saskatoon! Grab some skates and cool down with a skate at your local outdoor rink. Many communities in Saskatoon maintain ice during the winter season. You will likely find one at a school near you or contact your local community association<\/a> for a tip on where to find one. (Most rinks are opening up but it’s always best to check before you go with our unpredictable weather!)<\/p>\n

Watch a Movie<\/strong> \u2013 The theatre is often a draw during the holiday season, but nothing beats a cuddle-up at home with a nice movie! Both are great options for a relaxing holiday time with the family, but staying home is certainly easier on the pocketbook! With all the streaming options you can pick the perfect movie! Or borrow one from the library!<\/p>\n

Family Games Night<\/strong> \u2013 Krokinole, Checkers, Cranium, Cribbage, Guess Who, Monopoly, Battleship\u2014what was your favourite game to play as a kid? Make this year the year that you enjoy a family night of board games with your kids!<\/p>\n

Read a Book as a Family<\/strong> \u2013 It’s always nice to cuddle up with a good book especially when the weather outside is frightful! Why not do it as a family? Pick a chapter book that you can all get into and take turns reading it in bed in your jammies! Stop by the Saskatoon Public Library<\/a> or grab exchange books at one of Saskatoon\u2019s Free Little Libraries<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Take a Winter Walk<\/strong> \u2013 The Meewasin Valley Trail <\/a>is always a scenic place to take a stroll and winter is no exception! Bundle up and get out as a family on any of these awesome trails! Meewasin clears city paths as best they can during the winter, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you can also head out of town for a walk at Cranberry Flats Conservation Area<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Visit a Museum!<\/strong> Ever been to the Marr Residence<\/a>? It is the oldest building in Saskatoon and it served as a field hospital during the Northwest Rebellion. Check it out with the family during the holiday season! Or the Western Development Museum<\/a>? Have you checked out their seasonal displays or taken a walk through boomtown? The holidays are a nice time to stay warm in one of Saskatoon’s fantastic museums. Or check out the Aviation Museum<\/a>! There is nothing more exciting than airplanes!<\/p>\n

Don’t forget to Check Out Wanuskewin Winter Programming<\/a>! They’ve got programs over the holiday season and a wonderful playground and hiking trails!<\/p>\n

Create! <\/strong>Remai Modern<\/a> offers inexpensive (occasionally FREE) crafting opportunities for families. Don’t forget Remai Modern has admission by donation.<\/p>\n

Feed the chickadees at Beaver Creek<\/a>. Take advantage of the amazing trails at Beaver Creek Conservation Area. It’s just out of town and the chickadees will eat right out of your hands! It’s free and they provide the chickadee feed.<\/p>\n

Your family can also visit with the animals on a walk around the Forestry Farm and Saskatoon Zoo<\/a>. It’s free all winter long for visits with the animals.<\/p>\n

Hit up a Tobogganing Hill!<\/strong> Bundle up, grab your favourite sled and head to the sledding hill in your neighbourhood. Saskatoon is a wonderful city full of tobogganing hills. You will probably find one at your neighbourhood school, but you can also try one of these\u00a0 Best Places to Toboggan in Saskatoon<\/a>. (Side note: we know there isn’t any snow at the time we have updated this article but we are leaving this here with HIGH HOPES that the white stuff will bring us some outdoor fun soon.)<\/p>\n

Make Tracks<\/strong> – If you’re in possession of some cross-country skis or snowshoes, fill up your lungs with some refreshing winter air at one of these tracks in Saskatoon<\/a>. (We’re keeping this one in here as well just in case the snow falls.)<\/p>\n
