Kids love to tumble, swing, climb, juggle and clown around at Toronto Circus Centre (TCC) Winter-Spring lessons, located in Leaside at their newly renovated gym. These circus-themed lessons feature recreational activities that are a fun way for kids to stay busy and physically active indoors during the colder months. Not only that, but they can really push themselves to great heights but still within a non-competitive environment.
Aspiring acrobats from just one year old all the way up to 17 can experience life under the big top! There’s something for every junior circus star in training, including aerial trapeze, hoop, rope and silks as well as juggling, floor and partner acrobatics and clowning. Most of all, classes build character and confidence in the participants, while also teaching cooperation and leadership skills.
Rest assured, children do not need to have any previous circus class experience and everyone is welcome. Because the coaches are able to adjust each child’s direction to their individual skill level, new students can learn the basics and more experienced junior acrobats can add on to their circus repertoire. During the lessons, the experienced coaches encourage the kids to try every type of activity and apparatus. With so much variety in the circus, every child finds something they are good at and can focus on.
Circus Tots — Ages 1-3 (must be walking)
The tiniest troupe members explore aerial and ground circus acrobatics, encouraging fundamental movement skills and play. Parents & guardians get to join their tots in this program, where they can help the little ones jump, swing, twirl and tumble!
Kinder Cirque — Ages 4-5
As the toddlers grow into kids, their creativity, confidence and co-ordination also develop in the Circus Centre’s Kinder Cirque classes, where growing performers tackle circus acrobatic feats, both on the ground and in the air!
Circus Club — Ages 6-11
Big kids participate in numerous acts in Circus Club, including juggling, floor and partner acrobatics, aerial trapeze, hoop, rope and silks. Through circus training, students can enhance their performance in any sport as these lessons increase their strength, flexibility, co-ordination, confidence and creativity. Parents are then treated to a full circus show at the end of the year!
Teen Circus — Ages 11-17
Whether they are a beginner, cross training for a primary sport, transitioning out of competitive sport or have aspirations towards a career in the circus, this is a great class to keep teens stay in shape while having fun at the same time. Students train on aerial trapeze, hoop, rope and silks, as well as floor and partner acrobatics and juggling, with the option to focus on one apparatus if they wish. Students invite parents to a circus show at the end of the year too – it’s an attraction not to be missed!
