Tropicana Community Services‘ Youth Leadership Program for teens allows participants to discover their inner leaders! This two-week summer certificate program for youth aged 13-16 helps develop leadership skills through character-building workshops.

Tropicana Community Services (Tropicana) offers culturally appropriate and supportive programs to those in need with a focus on the Black, African, and Caribbean communities of Scarborough and Toronto. Programs include counselling, settlement services, childcare, education, personal development, and employment services.

Tropicana Youth Leadership Certificate Program

This program includes comprehensive daily workshops focused on developing skills in:

  • Leadership
  • Critical thinking
  • Effective communication
  • Civic Engagement
  • Collaboration

Program Highlights:

  • Group work, discussions, and debates
  • Guest presenters
  • Day trip to ROM

Program Details

  • Sessions run Monday-Friday 11:00am-4:00pm
  • Youth may only register for one of the three available sessions:
    • Session 1: July 4-14 (30 participants)
    • Session 2: July 17-28 (30 participants)
    • Session 3: July 31-11 (30 participants)
  • Each day includes two workshops and physical activity
  • Each session includes one off-site full-day field trip, run by three program leaders
  • Participants who have 100% attendance will receive a certificate of completion
  • Youths are required to bring their lunch, snacks, and water bottle each day, including trip days
  • Youth Leadership participants may wait with the Summer Camp After-Camp Care staff and children at no extra cost until 6:00pm
  • Youth Leadership participants can gain community service hours by supporting the Tropicana staff in running activities for the Summer Camp After-Camp Care program.

Fee: $400/person
Session 3: July 31-August 11
Fee: $360/person
Note: This session starts on Tuesday, August 8, as August 7 is a holiday.

Get a $100 discount off your total fees if the registered youth was enrolled in Tropicana’s Defy Your Label and/or Rise Above programs in 2022 or 2023.
