The Math Outreach Office at the Department of Mathematics, University of Toronto offers exciting March Break Camps for children and youth from Grades 1-8, with both in-person and online programming! Along with the camps’ specially-created themes and formats, their programs keep students engaged in learning math by exploring math concepts through real-life scenarios.

Regardless of whether your child already loves math or needs additional support in the subject, these camps challenge learners and encourage their appreciation for mathematical topics to complement their classroom education.

University Toronto Math March 1

March Break Math Camps — In-Person Grades 1-8

Held at their downtown St. George campus, in-person University of Toronto Math Outreach March Break Camps are week-long project-focused daytime programs that aim to encourage students and stimulate their interest in mathematics. Throughout the week, students explore various mathematical topics with activities that are educational but also fun, interactive, and hands-on!

Grade Levels:

  • Grade 1/2
  • Grade 2/3
  • Grade 3/4
  • Grade 5/6
  • Grade 7/8

Weekly Fee: $425 per student
After & Before Care: As a bonus to busy families, the University of Toronto Math Outreach program offers free before-care for campers from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM, every day except Monday, and after-care from 4:00 – 6:00 PM every day.

What to Bring

  • Notebook, pens, pencils, a ruler and a calculator
  • Child’s Provincial Health Card Number and/or Health Insurance information
  • Any medications required
  • A reusable water bottle
  • Nut-free lunch and snacks, for programs that run longer than three hours

March Break Math Camps — Online Grades 3-8

For families interested in online courses, University of Toronto Math Outreach offers programs that take place on Zoom, with course curriculum delivered through Google Classroom. These week-long online camps expose grade-school-aged students to math in a fun and interactive way. In addition, the camps keep students interested in learning math by exploring mathematic problems in real-life scenarios.

  • Grade 3/4: Exploring Math in Strategy, Games, and the World Around Us
    Explore how numbers, patterns, and probability shape the world around us, including the games we all love! Involving real-world problem-solving through puzzles, board games, and sports, this course sharpens kids’ critical thinking skills and turns them into real strategists.
  • Grade 5/6: Math in Motion: Designing Amusement Parks with Tinkercad
    Next, students dive into amusement park design, where they use math to design exciting rides and attractions! Furthermore, participants can learn important math concepts like angles, speed, and probability, creating an interactive digital map using Tinkercad. At the end of the week, they present their designs with a “virtual amusement park tour” to explain the math behind their creations.
  • Grade 7/8: Math in Financial Modelling
    This course introduces students to key financial concepts including annuities, perpetuities, loans, bonds and financial immunization. Students explore various mathematical topics using a combination of group and individual learning, along with real-world applications.
