If your imaginative child is looking to spend their summer creating art and exploring Ontario\u2019s Attraction of the Year, the Aga Khan Museum<\/a>\u2019s Summer Camps offer an exciting way to explore their artistic talents! In these innovative day camps, kids aged 6 to 12 can learn more about the Museum\u2019s artworks and artifacts. Plus, through hands-on making and outdoor activities, they will have fun creating their own artworks, designing and building their own games, and making new friends.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the Museum’s upcoming exhibition, Game On!<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, this year\u2019s camps explore games played around the world. Campers will discuss ideas about art, strategy, and creativity as they embark on exciting artistic adventures and gallery exploration.<\/p>\n

Introducing a new theme each week, kids will join collaborative challenges that combine creativity, problem-solving, and imagination. Participants will also craft handmade game boards and pieces while experimenting with puzzles and storytelling. Throughout the summer, these camps will reveal the different ways games can connect cultures, inspire creativity, and unite people. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Aga Khan Museum \u2014 Summer Camps 2026<\/a><\/h3>\n

For six weeks this summer, Aga Khan Museum runs weekly camps from July 6 to August 14, 2026. There are two separate age groups:\u00a0Junior\u00a0(ages\u00a06-8)\u00a0and\u00a0Senior\u00a0(ages\u00a09-12).<\/p>\n

Junior Camp (Ages 6\u20138)<\/h3>\n

In the Junior Summer Camp sessions, young campers explore the nature of play through creativity and hands-on activities. From the design of global games to strategic and imaginative storytelling, campers will create custom board games, sculpt game pieces, build puzzles, and invent characters. Then, they can even test their games with their fellow campers through playful competition!<\/p>\n

Week 1 \u2014 July 6-10<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Play Across Cultures: Games Around the World<\/strong>
\nAcross cultures and generations, games bring people together! During this first camp week, participants will design and build their own versions of some classic games, such as Snakes and Ladders, Mancala, and dominoes.<\/p>\n

Week 2 \u2014 July 13-17<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Master the Moves: Strategy and Puzzle Games<\/strong>
\nKids love to think like inventors! This week, campers will become puzzle designers as they create tangram puzzle sets, strategy board games, and sliding tile puzzles.<\/p>\n

Week 3 \u2014 July 20-24<\/a> \u2014 Quest Makers: Adventures, Maps, and Missions<\/strong>
\nAdventure takes centre stage this week, with the campers participating in imaginative quests and creative challenges! First, they will build their own quest board game, then create treasure maps, and assemble \u201cI Spy\u201d discovery jars.<\/p>\n

Week 4 \u2014 July 27-31<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Let the Games Begin: Tournaments and Team Challenges<\/strong>
\nWhile the campers experience the excitement of competition, they also learn how to design games and challenges of their own. Outdoor activities and group challenges celebrate collaboration and sportsmanship through imaginative storytelling projects.<\/p>\n

Week 5 \u2014 August 4-7<\/a> (Four-day camp week) \u2014 Puzzle Masters: Board Games and Card Games<\/strong>
\nIn this camp session, the young campers get to dive into the creativity behind classic tabletop games! Investigating logic challenges like Sudoku and crossword puzzles, this week focuses on creativity, design, and playful thinking.<\/p>\n

Week 6 \u2014 August 10-14<\/a> \u2014 Worlds of Imagination: Stories, Creatures, and Creative Play<\/strong>
\nCelebrating both imagination and storytelling, the final camp week lets the young artists sculpt and paint mythical creatures from clay, design sock puppet characters, and create interactive felt storybooks. Then, they will build rainstick musical instruments, invent imaginative tools, and participate in drawing challenges.\u00a0
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Senior Camp (Ages 9\u201312)<\/h3>\n

For older campers, the Aga Khan Museum Senior Summer Camps offer the opportunity to delve further into both game strategy and the creative process. Through hands-on projects, campers will strengthen their creative thinking, as well as their collaboration and problem-solving skills. Better yet, the activities encourage innovation and experimentation, and the campers bring their ideas and creations to life.<\/p>\n

Week 1 \u2014 July 6-10<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Global Game Makers: Games Across Cultures<\/strong>
\nStarting their summer off right, the campers will explore how games connect people through all cultures and generations. Activities include designing their own chess boards, crafting handmade Mancala boards and clay game pieces, and creating decorative dice and custom domino sets.<\/p>\n

Week 2 \u2014 July 13-17<\/a> \u2014 Play with Purpose: Games that Build Character
\n<\/strong>This week, the camp program focuses on the different ways games inspire the players’ empathy, resilience, and teamwork. In designing a personalized \u201cGame of Life\u201d board, campers explore how games can reflect personal values, collaboration and positive competition.\u00a0
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Week 3 \u2014 July 20-24<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Tactical Thinking: The Art of Strategy<\/strong>
\nThis week, the campers will examine the creative methods of strategy, planning, and problem-solving through classic games. These games include chess, Battleship strategy boards, playing cards, and deduction games. Campers will also develop game worlds, character sheets, and battle scenarios to bring their strategic games to life.<\/p>\n

Week 4 \u2014 July 27-31<\/a> \u2014 Story Worlds: Characters, Creatures, and Imagination
\n<\/strong>Blending storytelling, art, and game design, campers create their own fantasy worlds this week. Every step is covered, from developing hero and villain character sheets to sculpting mythical creatures from clay, to creating dice towers, customized dice and wearable magical jewelry!\u00a0
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Week 5 \u2014 August 4-7<\/a> (Four-day camp week) \u2014 Invent the Game: Becoming a Game Designer
\n<\/strong>The campers get to step into the role of game designers this week as they invent and test their own original character games. As they create character sheets and test their games, they experience the full creative process behind game development.\u00a0
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Week 6 \u2014 August 10-14<\/a> \u2014 Champions Arena: Tournaments and Legendary Games
\n<\/strong>Finally, in the last camp week, the campers will celebrate the thrill of competition, using skills they have developed throughout the summer. Of course, that means the campers get to participate in camp-wide tournaments of chess, checkers, and Snakes and Ladders!\u00a0
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n
