Does your kid live & breathe hockey? Are they bounding out of bed for early morning practice, are they begging to attend any available public skating session at your local rink just to hone their skills further? When they are outside playing with their friends, is the hockey stick glued in their hand? If so, you’ve got a hockey nut, it is best to embrace the passion, and sign them up for Canlan Ice Sports Summer Camps!
Canlan Ice Sports wants to get kids moving this summer! Ditch the screens, eliminate the boredom, learn new skills, and get exercise every day! Not only will your pint-sized hockey lover spend their week working on hockey conditioning skills, they will be learning off-ice games & skill training as well.
If your child is just beginning to skate, don’t worry, there are camps for them! Canlan Ice Sports meets kids at their skill level and truly moves them along with their skating skill development.
Canlan Ice Sports offers summer camps in 3 communities: North Shore, Burnaby & Langley. Parents have the option of selecting full day camps or half day. For the kids taking part in the full day camps, there is the option of purchasing a meal plan (just think…a whole week of not having to make lunches…woot!). Here’s a sampling of the camps offered by Canlan Ice Sports. (Please note the specific summer camps may vary slightly between facilities, so please look at the website for the venue closest to you for complete details)
Skating for Hockey – learn basic hockey skating skills. The emphasis of this week long, partial day camp is increasing your child’s agility on the ice. Hockey equipment is NOT required for this camp.
Skating, Shooting, and Scoring Camp – hone those scoring skills. Many kids take this camp to ramp up their scoring talents. The full-day camp focusses primarily on shooting & scoring, but players also work on skating, passing, receiving & conditioning.
Hockey Tips for Tots Camp – learn the fundamentals of skating & the basic rules of the game of hockey. All of the drills in the half-day camp are geared towards the age & skill level of these young players. Focus is on power skating, puck handling, passing & receiving.
Power Skating & Hockey Skills Camp – strengthen your child’s fundamental skills. The full-day camp focuses on proper technique for all areas of forward & backward stride, edge control, stopping & balance. After a week of training kids will have strengthened their puck control, passing, receiving & shooting skills.
Hockey Fundamentals Camp – if your child is new to the game (or a first year house league player) this camp is great for overall skill development as such power skating, puck control, passing & more. Full day & half day camps are available.
Pre-Season Conditioning Camp – get ready for tryout season. The specifically designed camp gets your child ready to be at their peak when taking to the ice during tryouts. With a heavy focus on conditioning as well as skill development, participants will undoubtedly come out faster, stronger and ahead of the competition!
Defensemen’s Camp – the full day camp is designed for players who are new to the defensemen position, or wish to strengthen their existing skills. An emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of the position and ensuring the players have an in-depth understanding of the roles & responsibilities of the defensemen position.
Forwards Camp – similar to the Defensemen’s Camp but this full-day focusses on the forward position. A variety of skills & tactical drills will hone each player’s endurance level, speed & skill.
High Performance Hockey Skills Camp – condition & improve the skills of advanced-level players. The full day camps push players even further with their development of overall skill, agility & speed.
Battle and Compete Camp – players will be pushed to compete at a higher level in key areas of the rink including in front of the net, corners, and along the boards. Players will learn how to utilize their bodies to win the 1 on 1 battles and races for loose pucks along with proper puck protection and angling skills.
Female Pre-Tryout Training Camps – girls wanting to get ready for the tryout season are invited to push their skills to the next level. The partial-day, week-long, camp will focus on getting the athletes to their highest level right in time for tryouts.
1ON1 – Attack and Defend Clinic – the half-day camp teaches creative puck control skills (toe drag, head fakes, puck protections & more). Spend one-on-one time with a goaltender to understand when to shoot or deak and how to read goalie positioning.
