Learning to ride a horse is a dream of most kids. The experience seems equally exotic and freeing. School-break-camps offer the perfect opportunity to try a new experience and discover, perhaps, an as yet unknown passion.
Rosewood Hunters & Jumpers operates Camp Rosewood – a Spring Break camp in Southlands (true urban horse country). Not only will your child get the thrill of learning how to ride a horse, the 5-day camp will introduce them to the great responsibilities that come with riding horses. The campers will be assigned their own pony for the duration of the week-long camp and are responsible for tacking both before and after their session each day. They will also learn about grooming, horse safety, and feeding the horses. The information-rich camps educate the kids about trail and road-riding safety, horse anatomy, and stable, paddock, and arena maintenance. Camp Rosewood will immerse your child in every aspect of horsemanship.
No matter the weather, the kids will be on horseback. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately throughout the week. The camp organizers recommend sending a change of clothes (and not just on the rainy days) as the participants will be doing arts and crafts in addition to riding.
In order to make sure your Rosewood Hunters & Jumpers Spring Break Camp is successful, please bring the following:
- water bottle
- stretchy pants for riding
- boots with a 1″ heel
- a helmet (a bike helmet is acceptable)
- any medication (e.g. EpiPens)
- rainy day gear, if necessary (rain jacket, gloves, change of clothes)
Camp Rosewood offers programs customized based on experience. Beginners and intermediates are encouraged to register for the 9am – 12pm slot. The cost for the 3-hour, 5-day camp is $450. For those who are advanced riders, please register for the 12:30pm – 2pm session. This 1.5-hour. 5-day camp is $350 and requires the participants have at least two years of weekly-riding lesson experience.
If you have a little one – aged 3-5 years – there’s a special Preschool Pony Camp just for them. The 3 day (Tues, Wed, Thurs) camp runs 12:30pm – 2pm and costs $350. Parents are welcome to stay and observe (barring any COVID restrictions).
