If your kids are like mine, they are desperate to get behind the wheel of a moving vehicle well before they are legally allowed. Up until now I’ve been completely reliant on ride-on lawn mowers and battery-operated toy cars to give my kids the thrill of driving. If your kid is 10 years or older, their head is about to pop off! Semi-retired race car driver, Russ Bond, created the kartSTART driving program in partnership with ToyotaCanada. The half-day drivers’ education program lets kids get the freedom of being behind the wheel while learning the basics of driving and necessary safety skills.
Your child’s kartSTART day begins with an overview of the go-karts, safety lesson, and go-kart fitting. Then it is onto the track for two FIFTEEN minute lead-follow sessions with the instructor. Your kid will be behind the wheel for a good amount of time! Probably just enough time to get them completely hooked on the driving experience.
“The kartSTART program is very unique in several ways,” says Russ Bond, owner of kartSTART Presented by Toyota. “The key is we teach youngsters in vehicles that fit them: our karts. What we teach here is how a vehicle works. What makes it go, what makes it stop, and what makes it turn. We teach our students what is happening to the vehicle as they drive down the road.”
To enjoy the kartSTART program, participants must be 10 years or older and weigh between 60 and 220 lbs. Your child must also be able to physically control the go-kart. Adults are more than welcome to register for the go-kart portion of the experience. Please note that pre-registration is required as there is limited space.
Another bonus: lunch is provided! All you need to do is have fun on the racetrack. Everything else is taken care of for you. Sign up now!
Family Fun Vancouver readers are in luck! When you register your child for the kartSTART program, use the discount code “FAMILYFUN” to get $20 off. We love saving our readers money.
