The Fraser River Discovery Centre is excited to announce the return of RiverFest for its 20th year. Presented by Global Container Terminals, RiverFest is a FREE family-friendly festival coinciding with BC and World Rivers Day. RiverFest features a variety of in-person and on-line activities hosted by the Discovery Centre. It’s a great way to welcome the arrival of Fall along the beautiful Fraser River! Below are some of the highlights and events happening from September 20-25th.

Birds of the Fraser River

Did you know that the Fraser River estuary is an important home for millions of migratory and resident birds throughout the year? RiverFest is pleased to welcome ornithologist, author and filmmaker Dr. Rob Butler for a free presentation over Zoom.

Family Fun Zone

Journey through the river as you play your way through games, demonstrations and crafts. Activities include trying to craft the strongest boat, becoming an engineer at the stream table, and finding hidden items with a scavenger hunt.

Small Boat Rendezvous

Are you interested in wooden boats? Have you ever tried building one? The Vancouver Wooden Boat Society will have an open house and wooden boat display at Sapperton Landing Park. There will be a kid’s boat building area and various hands-on demonstrations.

River Basin Explorer Day

Join us on Sunday, September 25th as we explore the colours, textures and beauty of nature! In this drop-in program, you’ll learn how to make a simple loom, and then gather materials as you stroll through the park. We’ll be there from 11 – 3, so drop by anytime!
