Ah, the lazy dazy summer days are upon us. Outdoor concerts and long summer afternoons are the perfect pairing. In 2021, Gateway Theatre launched Songs of Summer; the performance was such a hit the organizers are bringing it back for all of us to enjoy again in 2022.

Gateway Theatre’s Songs of Summer is geared to everyone. There’s an afternoon event designed specifically with families in mind, and the evening event offers a chance for the adults to unwind.

Songs of SummerAfternoon Event: 2pm – 5pm (doors open at 1:15pm)

Bring the whole family for an afternoon full of fun in the sun! Recommended for ages 5-10, but all are welcome!

2:00-3:00 PM – DJ Miss Sparklez and her multi-talented young performer and songwriter friend, Rickie Wang take the stage to perform their favourite jams and songs that will get the whole family on their feet busting out dance moves.

3:00-5:00 PM – Children can unleash their creative powers with an art activity led by visual artist Laara Cerman from the Richmond Art Truck, fun theatre games led by Gateway Academy Youth Leaders, and storytelling with professional actor and Academy instructor, Magda Ochoa.

DJ Miss Sparklez

DJ Miss Sparklez aka Krystal Kiran, is a BC-born and raised singer, dancer, actor, choreographer, teacher, and now DJ. Krystal started her performing career by dancing at the PNE when she was 16 years old and found herself performing on Broadway in New York City a mere three years later. Krystal has performed on some of the biggest stages around the world, but equally if not more than her love for the stage, Krystal LOVES working with kids and making them dance.

Tickets to attend the Afternoon Event are $10 per person. Kids aged 4 years and under are FREE however they do still need to reserve a ticket so the organizers know how many people plan on attending. You can book tickets to the Afternoon Event here.

Evening Event: 7pm – 8:15pm (doors open at 6:15pm)

There’s no better way to soak up the last days of summer than enjoying live music in the great outdoors with your favourite people. Bring your picnic blankets or chairs and take a respite among the trees for a magical evening filled with Motown tunes from Krystle Dos Santos and her three-piece band. Gateway Theatre is thrilled to have her back this summer, as last year’s concert was cancelled due to rain. (Don’t worry, the organizers have a weather plan in place for this year!) Enjoy the sweet sunset serenade with a glass of wine or beer from the Gateway Theatre concession for the perfect summer night out.

Krystal Dos Santos

Krystle Dos Santos is a Vancouver-based soul, jazz, and R&B singer. Krystle’s extraordinary voice – commanding, powerful and rich – has won her two Western Canadian Music Awards. Her music – inspired by classic, neo-soul combined with smooth R&B elements – is elegant, bold, and sensual, similar to modern legends Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley.

Tickets to attend the Evening Event are $25 per person. You can book tickets to the Evening Event here.
