Welcome to the 2020 Talking Stick Festival (TSF), proudly presented on the traditional unceded territories of the Coast Salish People. The theme for 2020 is Chén̓chenstway, “upholding each other, lifting each other up”, and this year’s festival promises to do just that for everyone involved.
This festival of extraordinary Indigenous performance and art features some of the best emerging and established Indigenous artists Turtle Island has to offer, with a lineup of theatre, storytelling, writing, music, spoken word, dance, film, visual arts – and more!

Come spend your Family Day holiday with Talking Stick! All shows are all-ages, either for or by youth, and showcase the stories, ideas and talents of Indigenous young people.
Celebration of Pow Wow Culture: February 23, at 12pm, Roundhouse Community Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver)
Experience an intercultural celebration of Indigenous Dance, the creative works of Indigenous artisans, and the warmth of Community. Open to all, the 2020 Talking Stick Powwow weaves community together in a fun family-friendly event filled with brilliant displays of traditional and contemporary dance from across Turtle Island. Join us in exploring different social dances! Visit the artisans and vendors! Experience traditional stories with Tee-pee Theatre. Enjoy the music, dance and food!
Indigenuity Concrete Smudge: February 25, at 6pm, The Wise Hall (1882 Adanac Stret, Vancouver)
For more than a decade, UNYA’s Overly Creative Minds (OCM) Program has been providing space for youth to find and strengthen their voice through the arts. #InDiGenuity: Concrete Smudge showcases the tremendous talent and work of emerging artists’ from the urban Indigenous community. From music and fashion to poetry and dance, come bear witness to what our youth have to say through the performing arts!
Metis Fair: February 29, at 12pm, Roundhouse Community Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver)
It’s an all-ages day of music, dance, food and more to celebrate Métis culture! This special afternoon includes lively Métis tunes played on fiddle and guitar, along with lessons on how to play the spoons yourself and, of course, jigging! Join in participatory workshops on carving and finger-weaving, and learn about Métis herbs in an exclusive and fascinating workshop. Enjoy lively performances by the Louis Riel Métis Dancers and others. There’ll be vendors, soup and bannock, too. It’s fun for the whole family!
