Place des Arts has been offering quality, accessible arts education programs since 1972. Over the years, many words have been used to describe the Place des Arts vibe: warm, welcoming, vibrant, and inspiring. But chief among them is the word home. Whether your child’s interest lies in visual, literary, or performing arts, Place des Arts is home to the arts community in Coquitlam and beyond. Joan McCauley, the Executive Director of Place des Arts, says, “The main benefit that Place des Arts brings to your arts experience is our roster of highly qualified, caring teachers and arts professionals whose depth of knowledge and experience will help you achieve your artistic goals. Whether it’s to learn a skill, develop existing skills, or explore creativity, you will be learning from some of the best in an environment that is warm and welcoming.”

What program will light a fire in your child’s heart this fall? Where do their passions lie? Place des Arts offers educational programs across a wide span of disciplines.

Visual Arts: All ages are exposed to a wide variety of art mediums, including drawing and painting, fibre arts, ceramic arts, and mixed media. Classes run during the fall, winter, and spring sessions and students are encouraged to take more than one session, as each session introduces new ideas, techniques, and materials.

Music: Whether you are interested in group classes or private lessons, the exceptional teachers on the Place des Arts music faculty provide lessons both online and in-person. Find classes in a wide variety of musical styles and instruments, such as piano, guitar, winds, strings, voice, brass, and percussion.

Dance & Movement: Dance classes run from September to June, and also during the fall, winter, and spring sessions. Choose from a wide variety of dance styles for all ages including ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, tap, and more. The training ranges from recreational enjoyment to competition levels.

Theatre Arts: Children and teens are exposed to outstanding performance training for theatre, TV, and film. Classes are available in-person and class sizes are based on the needs of the material, to ensure personalized attention. If your child loves theatre, they will love Coquitlam Youth Theatre programs. They offer performance-based training for emerging theatre artists intent on putting together full productions.

Literary Arts: For those who aspire to storytelling, the literary arts program will expand storytelling abilities and is offered in-person and online. There are classes designed for writers and illustrators who are just exploring and classes for experienced writers and artists looking to hone their skills.
