Disney on Ice has arrived in Vancouver and the 2018 show is empowering, inspiring, and pure fun. Thanks to the roaring success of Coco, the show started with a little snippet of “Remember Me” by Miguel. New for 2018, is a human host. Mickey and Minnie don’t narrate the show the way they have in past years. To be completely honest, I missed the mice. Emily was bubbly and fun, but my childhood memories are tied to Mickey and Minnie. An addition in this year’s show I LOVED was how the performers engaged so many of the kids in the performance. Families who were seated in the special floor seats, saw their kids invited up to interact with the characters, sit on the corner of the ice during a performance, and even go for a ride in the cart during one of Rapunzel’s songs. Families definitely got their money’s worth with those tickets.

Disney on Ice’s Dare to Dream portrayed empowering stories of female characters highlighting their super hero abilities. Impressively, Disney on Ice managed to distil both Beauty and the Beast and Rapunzel into 10 minute performances. For Cinderella, the story commenced as she went off to the ball to meet the prince. The reason these 3 stories had to be told in shortened format was due to the big acts in the second part of the show.

After the intermission, Elsa and Anna took to the stage for a reprise of Frozen. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that music. And then, the star of the show, Moana, skated to centre ice. Moana made her Disney on Ice debut with an action-packed voyage and mighty demigod Maui at her side in a quest to save her island. You can always count on Disney on Ice to provide an exceptional performance and their staging of Tamatoa – the crab, Maui, Gramma Tala, Te Ka and her transformation into Te Fiti made the characters seemed plucked directly from the movie.

Disney on Ice is always in town the 2nd last weekend of November. We’ve attended the performances for enough years now that I’ve really come to view Disney on Ice as kicking off the Christmas season. The performers are only in town until Sunday so don’t delay, get your tickets, and get swept away with a whole lot of Disney magic.
