Weekends at home are the only option for the foreseeable future. In our house we are working hard to separate the weekdays from the weekends. Our weekdays are structured – everyone gets dressed, beds are made, schooling and working-fr0m-home are in full-force. But on the weekends, we are relaxing the rules and letting life drift by in a rather unstructured manner. But my husband and I have quickly learned that while a lack of structure is manageable, a lack of ideas is not. If our kids don’t have something occupying their time they fill their time with bickering. So, here are a few ideas that we use to keep the weekends chill – and argument free – during our COVID-isolation.

We live in a day and age where resources and inspiration are at our fingertips, which makes getting creative easier than ever. Browse Pinterest for craft and activity ideas. Research recipe sites for delicious, healing food to make with your families. Listen to podcasts, audiobooks, or dance to your favourite music. Order your groceries online, binge on some Disney+, cuddle up under a blanket fort and make some memories!

Craft Crazy

Use things you have around the house and let the kids have some messy, creative fun! Do you know how long a stack of cardboard, some tape, and scissors can keep a child occupied?! HOURS, I tell you.

Paper Spinner Craft

Potato Egg Stampers

Coffee Filter Butterflies

Homemade Playdough

Marshmallow Shooters

Forky From Toy Story 4

I also highly recommend the book Cardboard Kingdom by Chad Sell. It is a graphic novel packed full of good life lessons. But the piece I love most about this book is the inspiration it creates in every kid who reads it. Within minutes of completing the book, the readers are diving for unclaimed cardboard and creating all sorts of wonderful costumes.

Games and Activities

Pull out some board games, do a big puzzle, print off some new colouring sheets, or try one of the interactive ideas below!

Making Memories

Kids thrive on simple, quality time together with the people they feel loved by. Try to think like a kid, what do you wish your parents would have done with you? Get silly, have fun, and watch your kids soak up this special time with your undivided attention.
